Mutter manages to hone in on ideas from previous releases and create a sound that they will use for years to come.

AllMusic

MUTTER isn't as good as Sehnsucht, but it isn't a stumble either.

Entertainment Weekly

Although missing the cheesy visual excitement of their live show — with its over-the-top pyrotechnics and giant, water-spurting phalluses — Mutter is sternly self-parodic, headbanging horror rock at its finest.

Drowned in Sound

Despite being sung entirely in German, it's highly listenable. The riffs are nice and chunky, the production is polished and the tunes generally grab you by the balls. If it wasn't for this, I could write them off as another shock gimmick band. But I can't.

Alternative Press

Chock-full of red-faced thrills ... one of the few metal albums just as suited for knocking boots in the bedroom as it is for knocking heads in the pit.

Rolling Stone

The band supersizes the pathos that lurks in the heart of metal music and seizes on a theme: the love that burns, the hate that heals. It's the sort of touchy-feely stuff that most hard bands are afraid to confront - but Rammstein revel in it, and that's why Mutter is so powerful.

SPIN
On their third studio album, the brothers of mercy continue to fuse retro-futurist death-disco with old-school chunka chunka riffs that crackle and pop when they pump it up but at times lumber through turgid tar pits.
50
NME

On their third album Rammstein sadly follow a road dictated by autocratic efficiency.

Rammstein's best album. And it's by a long shot.

REVIEW REPOST #027. I repost my old reviews, which got no attention, with updated thoughts. Posted this review last year in August, but I'm posting it again.

I would have to say that this was one of the first Metal albums I've heard that got me into the genre. Back in 7th grade, I was a little kid and I somehow came across the song "Feuer Frei" and I thought it was the heaviest shit imaginable. I loved that song, played it everywhere ... read more

In 1989, guitarist excaped Richard Kruspe excaped from East Germany. In West side of Berlin he founded Orgasm Death Gimmick. At first he was really inspired by hair metal bands from US like Kiss. After Berlin Wall fell down, he returned to his home town Schwerin, where he met Till Lindemann, drummer of First Arsch . Kruspe lived with Oliver Riedel of The ... read more

No idea what the fuck they're saying, but it sounds good and has great production so who cares. But the second half is noticeably a bit worse.
