If Revenge, Eurythmics' fifth album, marked a slight fall-off in the group's commercial and artistic accomplishments, Savage, their sixth collection, confirmed that decline.
I like the direction here. It sounds like they're going back to making an abum like Sweet Dreams. It has that sound. Savage stands on its own because at this point in their career, they've grown as musicians. They're giving you the artsier version.
There's a few weird misses in the tracklist, though.
Eurythmics do the funny drop in quality in 1987 and we end up with Savage. Too direct for your review opening lines? Too bad. It's just how it is. From the first few notes, you can sense something's changing, maybe they just were fed up and had to still sit out their record deal or something. But everything here screams 'we need to keep ourselves entertained, otherwise we'll die'.
