Meticulously composed in the style of Gregorian chants as interpreted through the ears of Black Sabbath, "Dopesmoker" esoterically describes -- get this -- the "Weedian" people's pilgrimage to the "riff-filled land."

Perfecting what Black Sabbath first hinted at decades ago, Dopesmoker is the crowning achievement of the Stoner Metal movement.

Call it an almighty stoner metal joint-obliterating masterpiece all you want, but damn it isn't this a gradually adding nudge to your patience. I wanted Dopesmoker to be this gargantuan apex that would tantamount to tectonic plates violently colliding against each other. The imagery was more than present, I then clenched my asshole in excitement, but nothing moved. The thunderous riffage & bass tones on this kicks major ass, I'll give it that. This isn't gonna be for everyone. This album consists of only two tracks, but it still clocks in longer then an hour. It's repetitive, mind numbing, and at points borderline unlistenable. But it's something that you need to experience. It's an "album" that defy's explanation. It's a "record" that will challenge even the most hardened music nerd. But it's a piece of music that needs to be heard to be believed.

No introduction needed: the title track. One hour, 3 minutes, 29 seconds. Dopesmoker starts slow, but intense. It's essentially ... read more

THOUGHTS:

Stoner Metal at its peak. Sleep brings us a mix of Prog Metal, Stoner Metal and Prog-Rock, with one of the most legendary songs (Dopesmoker) of all of Prog music.

The guitarist must've gotten really tired of playing the same riff for an hour straight. This album is about 6 times too long
