Go 2 captures the moment, but it was rushed out too quickly. In fact, it could be the worst album they've ever made.
Go 2 draws on secondary sources - dub, some telegraphed idea of funk, and all kinds of social alienation - and makes something new out of it all, though it's not always listenable.
The album, while slightly more melodic, reprises much of the quirky, high-energy playing of White Music, but the material is considerably weaker this time out.

"Go 2" is the last album where XTC were playing around, with the band after it being more mature and creative.
In here, the band goes on with the new wave and "post-punk" sound of their debut, being driven and thoughtful in a way that would make the group grow further on their sound from the 79 "Drums and Wires" to the 89 "Oranges & Lemons". It surely isn't their strongest album, but it's not that bad. Also I think this is one of my favorite album covers conceptually, I love it.
Something of a step-down from White Music, Go 2 is XTC's weakest release by a wide margin. The first few tracks are excellent and I adore Barry's songs despite popular opinion (though my love of his band Shriekback has probably biased me), but, beyond that it's nothing special.
