The Sydney Morning Herald
Behind her clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and strong, occasionally soaring, vocals is a self-confessed outsider attempting to open herself up through music.

AllMusic

The effusive debut full-length album from Australia's Toni Watson (aka Tones and I), 2021's Welcome to the Madhouse finds her further expanding the uplifting electronic pop she first showcased on her 2019 EP The Kids Are Coming.

The Arts Desk

A likeable album of personality, heart and jovial gobbiness.

The Guardian
After a global hit as odd as Dance Monkey, Toni Watson had dream conditions to write a debut. Instead, the album is unadventurous and occasionally exhausting.

Welcome to the Madhouse is truly the worst. It’s hard to even make jokes about because it’s so bad that I just want to call my mom and tell her I love her.

I completely missed the breakout single “Dance Monkey” by Australian singer-songwriter Tones And I, and the only reason why I’m going out of my way to review her debut is because a) there seems to be a real industry push for her and b) there also seems to be a lot of strong opinions about her. After giving “Welcome to the Madhouse” (as well as “Dance Monkey”) a listen, I honestly can’t think of any reason why people would fine anything about this ... read more

To me, the greatest mystery in music of the last 10 years is how Dance Monkey reached number 1 in over thirty countries. How is it that Tones and I is just about the biggest thing to come out of Australia since Tame Impala (and even then, her success eclipses that of Kevin Parker). Why do I ask this? Because every time I decide to engage in her music, I am lost for words. There is nothing redeemable, interesting or new on offer. Welcome To The Madhouse is no different. Rarely has a body of ... read more
