Albumism
Nas plays to his strengths as an artist, sounding as confident and self-assured as he’s ever been and every bit of the verbal assassin he was in the mid-1990s.
90
Clash
On 'Magic', Nas seems as tuned into the culture as ever before, fulfilling his prophecy as rap leading lyricist, almost as if he's ushering in a new prime of his career.

Exclaim!
An immaculate project that finds Nas regaining top form and will surely find its way close to the top of his illustrious discography, which is aging like fine wine.

Beats Per Minute

Not only does it display how clearly Hit has re-energized his chosen rapper, who benefis from its brevity and laser-like focus, it damn well tops their victory from earlier in the year.

HipHopDX
Despite how direct the lyricism is, it plays like two friends riffing in the studio and building off each other’s energy; listeners can hear how much Nas loves what he’s doing.

The Needle Drop

Obviously Magic isn't as robust as the previous Hit-Boy collabs, but it's still a reason to be excited for KD3.

Nas is a pointillist, better at writing couplets than albums, and Magic proves he’s still a transcendent rapper when he allows himself to be.

I’m gonna be completely honest, I heavily disliked both of the King’s Disease records. But for some reason the track list and the album cover intrigued me, thinking it will be different than that series. It is quite different, it sounds a lot closer to the older Nas that i’m used to. I wouldn’t have ever guessed, it was Hit-Boy behind these beats. It doesn’t sound like anything he’d do, but they’re not that impressive. The only instrumental I really ... read more

Really strong showing from Nas. No filler. Every beat goes hard. Great to see Nas back on his bullshit once again.

This literally came out of nowhere, what the fuck. Several times I'm listening to this, asking, "Holy shit, Hit Boy made this beat?" The chemistry between rapper and producer here shows, Nas sounds HUNGRY. The beat on Ugly made me ascend, and yes, it's funny that the song title is Ugly while the beat is fucking GORGEOUS. 40-16 Building sounds like the best songs from Cuban Linx 2, while Nas lays similarly old school references out the ass on Wave Gods. The Truth, Wu For The Children, ... read more

Might not be as grand or as robust as KD I or KD II. But nas pulls through with an amazing teaser on what’s to come in 2022.

MAGIC by Nas.
Hip Hop, 2021.

It's odd that this was released as like a side-compilation of tracks that didn't make the cut for the Kings Disease trilogy when this is the strongest, most cohesive Nas/Hit-Boy collaboration thus far, and definitely the best work on Hit-Boy's side.

Favorite Songs: Speechless, Wave Gods, The Truth
Least Favorite: Wu for the Children
