An immaculate project that finds Nas regaining top form and will surely find its way close to the top of his illustrious discography, which is aging like fine wine.

Clash
On 'Magic', Nas seems as tuned into the culture as ever before, fulfilling his prophecy as rap leading lyricist, almost as if he's ushering in a new prime of his career.

Albumism
Nas plays to his strengths as an artist, sounding as confident and self-assured as heโ€™s ever been and every bit of the verbal assassin he was in the mid-1990s.

Beats Per Minute

Not only does it display how clearly Hit has re-energized his chosen rapper, who benefis from its brevity and laser-like focus, it damn well tops their victory from earlier in the year.

HipHopDX
Despite how direct the lyricism is, it plays like two friends riffing in the studio and building off each otherโ€™s energy; listeners can hear how much Nas loves what heโ€™s doing.

Sputnikmusic
The production is slick and glossy, every beat is well-judged and authentic, and every bar shows exactly why he's so revered.

AllMusic
Hit-Boy's thick, straightforward, and somewhat retro-stylized production again offers as much of a voice here as Nas' fluid rhyming and wizened lyricism.

The Needle Drop

Obviously Magic isn't as robust as the previous Hit-Boy collabs, but it's still a reason to be excited for KD3.

Pitchfork

Nas is a pointillist, better at writing couplets than albums, and Magic proves he’s still a transcendent rapper when he allows himself to be.

Mojo
Not one to chase fads, Nasโ€™s fifteenth is a heap of comfort food for old-school rap fans.

This literally came out of nowhere, what the fuck. Several times I'm listening to this, asking, "Holy shit, Hit Boy made this beat?" The chemistry between rapper and producer here shows, Nas sounds HUNGRY. The beat on Ugly made me ascend, and yes, it's funny that the song title is Ugly while the beat is fucking GORGEOUS. 40-16 Building sounds like the best songs from Cuban Linx 2, while Nas lays similarly old school references out the ass on Wave Gods. The Truth, Wu For The Children, ... read more

This was a very fun project and I hope to improve upon anything I did wrong or anything I forgot to include next year. Thank you to everyone who participated, it was a joy to put together. Besides that, I'd also like to shamelessly plug my year-end lists.

I’m gonna be completely honest, I heavily disliked both of the King’s Disease records. But for some reason the track list and the album cover intrigued me, thinking it will be different than that series. It is quite different, it sounds a lot closer to the older Nas that i’m used to. I wouldn’t have ever guessed, it was Hit-Boy behind these beats. It doesn’t sound like anything he’d do, but they’re not that impressive. The only instrumental I really ... read more

I love how people complain about this not being as good as the tapes with Hit-Boy even tho he produced this full tape. Beats are crazy and Nas' pen game is much better than i remember it being. Fire feature from Flacko as well. definition of sometimes less is more, super concise and it works to it's benefit. He could've just added 5 more 6-7/10 tracks but tbh i like it better being short
