Beats Per Minute

Component System is impossible to sum up. It’s a tender, chaotic, and messy experience that feels all the more natural because of Open Mike Eagle’s transparency with his audience.

Northern Transmissions
It’s everything that you want from a hip hop album, though it might not dive as deep as some of his previous records. Self-effacing and word-celebrating, it is what you might expect from an Open Mike Eagle record, and that is a good thing.

AllMusic

Filled with casually brilliant moments, Component System with the Auto Reverse is easily one of Open Mike Eagle's most enjoyable efforts.

HipHopDX

Component System with the Auto Reverse is no landmark of rap music, but it is rock solid, and contains enough pearls of wisdom and displays of swagger to justify Open Mike Eagle’s endless tenure.

Pitchfork
The rapper’s eighth solo album is a stroll down memory lane, summoning the ‘90s boom bap aesthetics he grew up on. It’s a nostalgic trip that further cements his witty, introspective, and singular style.

The Needle Drop
OME's still doing his thing, and he's doing it well.

Spectrum Culture
Open Mike Eagle doesn’t need concepts. All he needs is himself and the rest of his Auto Reverse Records labelmates.

This is a more well rounded look at him, where he still explores personal topics in his signature comedic manner. One thing i always loved about him, was how easily relatable he is. For me, this was already apparent in the first song, where he casually throws out “Listening to Popeye by Quelle Chris”. Now this was one of my most ... read more

It's funny how OME albums are usually jussssst good enough to retain my attention throughout the listen yet I end up saving very few songs to my playlists.

I'm really impressed with this album. Some of Open Mike Eagle's most honest, funny and quotable bars along with varied features from Video Dave, Armand Hammer, R.A.P. Ferreira, Aesop Rock and more over abstract beats from great producers like Child Actor, Diamond D, Quelle Chris and even Madlib. The stretch from '79th and Stony Island' to 'Multi-Game Arcade Cabinet' is pretty much flawless tbh.

Having a Armand Hammer and Aesop Rock feature on the same album is crazy. Favorite tracks: Burner Account, CD Only Bonus Track, I Retired Then I Changed My Mind. Least Favorite track: Multi-Game Arcade Cabinet.
