Before Traffic would move their sound to a more progressive rock sound they started out as a more psychedelic folk rock centered band like many band early in their career back in the mid 1960's and their self-titled album is easily there strongest in this era for them. Traffic is the British band that gave us the legendary Steve Winwood, and on their 3rd record have provided a strange little album that confounded me as to how I enjoyed it.
What helped to understand was that the band were at a certain odds with each other over the course of the album's creation. Dave Mason was more for the straightforward and catchy nature of pop infused rock music while Winwood and Capaldi leant more into jazz-oriented progressive and psychedelic affairs. Decent enough album, very well made and groovy sounding, but it's kind of monotonous and forgettable. Also one of the songs is about a grown man thirsting over a 13-year-old girl, so yeah that's a yikes from me dawg.
What do you think if when you hear psychedelic and folk rock together, take out any of that experimental or progressive stuff and chances are it's pretty darn similar to this. There's nothing bad about it, but it's painfully cliche and rather boring once you catch on to its schtick
