All in all, Beautiful Freak is a satisfying first record.
(Analbumaday Day 61)
When the album started with “life is hard, and so am I” I knew I’d be in for a ride. Well, to be honest, the ride was short lived. Didn’t take long to lose my interest, the lyrics were about the only thing I was impressed by throughout the majority of this album, but the vocals and instrumentals kinda put me off. Oh, and I have no idea where a song from here featured in Shrek lol.
Eels debut, Beautiful Freak, perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being an outcast whilst it not necessary feeling forced and feels genuine in its lyrics. Surrounding it with some solid indie production even drawing from trip hop on some of the tracks and you have a great debut. Also, any Shrek fans?
