Like Zeppelin at its most abstract, Blind Melon's guitar riffs morph from metal to blues to psychedelia. This is great stuff for guitar fans who like their music cliche-free.

Blind Melon exhibit a baffling diversity of influences ... hangs together remarkably well, with an absorbing, unforced intimacy as the key to successfully weaving such faded threads into a colourful, contemporary garment. Ones to watch.

Blind Melon's lone hit, the acoustic ditty "No Rain," gave off sweet hippie love vibes for the summer of 1993, with forlorn vocals and a moving video.

The band that never should have been a one-hit wonder.

On October 21st of 1995, Blind Melon lead singer Shannon Hoon died of a drug overdose at the age of 28. This was just a few months after the band's second studio record Soup. Understandably, this put a massive dent in the band. They sought a replacement for Hoon, but the sound was never quite right, and the events led to the entire band being pretty disheartened. KandZs January Challenge 6! Calm albums with terrifying lyrics.

...Hey, Blind Melon counts. For alternative rock standards, this band can tend to be calm to the ears. Rather safe but fundamentally strong & enjoyable rock music that lends itself to a fair variety of niches. A project and band I’m happy to discover

This album is SO GOOD and so underrated it's highkey criminal that they'd get done like this. It's so unfortunate that due to the success of grunge this album kind of got blown off even though they were the second coming of Zeppelin (arguably better). I mean this album is so strong top to bottom! The big highlight, of course, HAS to be the technical ability of the band. And YES, that includes Shannon Hoon's vocal cords, they are incredible. But honestly, there probably ... read more
