Vs. proved Pearl Jam as not only a confident musical body but one who could succeed far past trends and critical drubbing.
Fortunately for all parties involved Vs. is an album with the same subtle power of Ten and an equal capacity for long-standing impact.
Vs. may not reach the majestic heights of Ten, but at least half the record stands with Pearl Jam's best work.
Hipper Northwest bands like Mudhoney would give their Doc Martens for a singer with a fifth of Eddie’s personality. Do yourself a favor—take out an insurance policy on his vocal cords.
Pearl Jam's sophomore record isn't a slump by any means, but it's nowhere near the quality of their debut, "Ten".
"Vs." is an interesting release that definitely goes for a different vibe but I'm not sure it works QUITE as well. While not as great as Ten with not as many hits, I think this album is a lot more consistent all the way through. The cover is better also

Well, not exactly. As time goes on, I think Pearl Jam will always be primarily associated with their ground-breaking debut, while the rest of their catalogue will be discussed less often. The band didn’t reinvent the wheel on "Vs"., they simply stuck to what had already worked — and it paid off. It’s a solid follow-up with a number of standout tracks: 'Go', 'Animal', 'Daughter' 'Rearviewmirror', etc.
