A retrofest resembling an all-star jam with the Rolling Stones, the Byrds, Traffic, and Jimi Hendrix. Soaring harmonies, jangly guitars, and bluesy solos blend with chiming keyboards and the occasional bongo.
Even when 'Tarantula' approaches greatness it somehow falls short.
Like the Beatles' Let It Be, Tarantula is a studio document of a band unraveling, and it's full of clues about the split.
It's better than Carnival of Light, that's for sure.
the production on this is really awful, especially on the drums
this just feels pretty lifeless and a very poor shift in style. i'm glad they called it quits after this its evident they weren't a cohesive unit anymore.
It's honestly not as bad as the band makes it out to be, it's just not very original or inspired and you can tell that this was an album that they forced themselves to finish and had no real love for. When you hear the passion behind their other records, you can tell that this is an album that they wish never happened.

I have a lot of time on my hands today, so I decided to visit Ride's 1996 album, Tarantula. Apparently this was a flop.
And oh goodness, after listening, it's not hard to see why.
This is just really disappointing because it was a major turn away from the sound they are iconic for. Going Blank Again is one of my favorite albums of all time, but this album showcases Ride completely dropping their loud, fast drumming, droning shoegaze with some shabby britpop something-or-other.
