Aesop Rock rhymes as if he's trying to recite his internal monologue, smothering exotic beats in bizarre observations and confessional narratives seemingly woven from the utterances of someone talking in their sleep.
The genius on this record is insane! Some of y’all ain’t really LISTENING though, don’t let Aesop’s fast raps and obscure topics deter you from a gem with some of the best poetry you will ever fucking hear. 6B Panorama literally depicts everything this man can see from his apartment with wordplay that blows my mind with its complexity but also his peculiar observation of the world that we see across the LP. As someone who has known about Aesop Rock for the better part of two decades, serving as my introduction to abstract underground hip hop, it's surprising that Float is one of two Aesop records I've never worked fully through. Only his second record and his first album under an independent label, Float plays in a similar tone and with the same height of creativity that would be expected from Aesop Rock across his full discography. Float follows the same type of gritty and simple sound Music From Earthworms carried, just with a higher sound quality. The production is more solid and refined and Aesop's lyrics are still great. The only thing this album really suffers from is that some tracks don't have much going for them, and the album being 69 minutes long seriously brings it down a bit. Plus the production is still a bit uninteresting at times.

While Float does have impressive rapping, I find a lot of the instrumentals to be kinda repetitive, boring, and somewhat empty, and I find Aesop's voice here somewhat annoying. Overall, though a fairly good debut
