Concise and consistent, Pro Tools is so rich in detail that it takes a few listens just to soak everything in. At a brisk 44 minutes, GZA's cold-blooded sonic cinema invites and rewards repeat visits.
Even if they're slow to arrive, GZA's full-lengths rarely disappoint. Pro Tools is no different, but with so many divergent projects and experiments from the Clan filling the five previous years, this throwback also proves the crew's original formula still works splendidly.
Firehouse is one of Ka's best songs. It was very kind of GZA to give him that sort of platform. I was just watching his interview with Red Bull Music Acedemy. Rest in peace, man. I highly recommend checking out "Orpheus vs. the Sirens" under the pseudonym "Hermit and the Recluse"--it's one of his greatest works no doubt.
I remember when this dropped, I heard the first 4 songs and was like "Oh shit GZA is back with another classic", then immediately the album took a hard nosedive and never recovered.
GZA's most recent release (nearly twenty years ago...) is, unfortunately, easily his worst. GZA himself sounds relatively impassioned and energized for swaths of this record, which makes it all the more upsetting that the production here is lackluster/bordering on outright terrible for many tracks. One of those albums that truly sounds like its cover looks
Kinda of an underwhelming album especially given the attention his 50 Cent diss track got, and that track is by far the best on here and one of the most underrated diss tracks to date. Hopefully he can join his Wu-Brothers and make a comeback album sooner or later since this is his most recent album. Mass Appeal did reveal they wanted to revive the Legends trilogy this year like they did last year and hopefully we get more legends making monster comebacks and I hope GZA is one of them.
goddamn, this is turning 18 this year, i heard it knowing it was from 2008 but i only now connected with it turning 18 this year.
Favourite Track: Firehouse
Least Favourite Track: Cinema
what the hell is wrong with "Cinema", what is this goofy ahh cadence switch?? why does it sound like both artists are whispering on the song?? and this goofy ahh production too, why does it sound like it's building up to something just for nothing to happen??? everything just mixes so badly resulting in an absolute mess of a song that has no idea how the overall tone should be
other than that, the album is actually good, and pretty underrated (honestly)
GZA does lose a lot of the ... read more
