It's not bad. But it's just so disappointing. "Duke" gave me hope for the 80's Genesis but that hope is gone again. "Abacab" sounds pretty uninspired and tired; little passion. I appreciate the experimentation but it all sounds very dated. I'm not saying there is nothing good on here, but I can confidentally say that there is nothing great. That’s all I think when I see this album title.
Everyone shits on this album, forgetting that there's a thing which is that this album came out in 1981, and prog rock was as long as dead. You couldn't absolutely do progressive in 1981, even Peter Gabriel after going solo switched to art rock which was more suited after 1975/1976, but prog elitists absolutely don't know that music EVOLVES, you can't stay forever like that.

Genesis continues down the pop path with Abacab, and this is a pretty mixed bag honestly. It starts out super strong with the three best tracks on the whole album being right out the gate, with the opening title track's masterful keyboard, No Reply at All's great singing from Phil backed by some extremely inspired horns, and Me and Sarah Jane having a great sense of progression throughout.
