Invisible Touch was seen at the time as a bit of a Phil Collins solo album disguised as a Genesis album, and it's not hard to see why.
Goddammit... Yes I love Phil Collins and I'm tired of pretending I don't. The dude literally dedicated his body to the drums. I seem to be a rare breed that adores the prog Peter Gabriel genius of the early Genesis days, and the unapologetic pop bangers of the Phil Collins years. This won't challenge the listener like Selling England or Foxtrot, but it's wonderfully produced and recorded pop greatness. Phil Collins can friggin sing.

It's pretty good, but you can notice a significant drop in quality from the self-titled album. The production has aged like milk - it's so 80s coated and has no soul. Mixing is good though, sounds punchy. The main problem here is the few tracks that really bring the average down. They're not bad, but don't hold up to the rest. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass.
