Country music and bluegrass keep winding their way into the album, and while it rarely smacks of a gimmick, these rustic numbers often evolve into EDM around their drum machine-introducing choruses, as if True was a remix album commission Avicii picked up while vacationing in Appalachia.
Avicii has been mostly lucky — a producer of serviceably adrenalized electro-house anthems who stumbled his way into the zeitgeist via a particularly canny soul-rave mashup. It turns out that he’s a smart, fun, and persuasive pop songsmith, closer in spirit to Bruno Mars than Swedish House Mafia.
The challenge he faces, and mostly meets, on his official debut, True, is how to break up a woozy, whomping live experience into songs with feeling — to translate house music for the home. His answer: Invite a genuine smorgasbord of collaborators.
True is an album that takes one type of music and moulds it into something completely different, allowing Avicii to cement himself as one of the best DJs in the world.
The Swede’s debut album picks up on this Mumford & Synths sound for a set of folk, soul and addictive house beats.
All in all the album is a failed attempt at broadening the palates of the “EDM generation” in America.
See, I don't know if this deserves this score. Probably doesn't. But, this is the first album I heard and Avicii' will always mean a lot to me. It's just based off my personal enjoyment!!

Quick Comment:
Today it is Tim Bergling birthday, I thought I would do this in honor of him. Good start but didn't finish strong, personally it felt like the first half or so had some meaning towards or even had a bit of ... read more
It's OK
Most of this album sounds like it was made to be played at sunset parties at bars near the beach during summer time. The most generic version of music of that type of situation but slightly more enjoyable
The radio songs (Wake Me Up and Hey Brother) are nice and better are the deeper cuts of the record (Hope There's Someone and Heart Upon My Sleeve)
Overall, this record is OK
One of the biggest names in 2010s EDM, Avicii's debut album cemented itself in the genre's history with an ambitious crossover of unexpected genres alongside his signature house style that made him blow up in the first place. "Wake Me Up" is a song EVERYBODY knows, and "Hey Brother" too, but... that's not really all that pleasant of a listening experience after the first time.
Anyway, this album gets a lot mostly right, but it falls just short of something ... read more
