OceanLab - Another Chance
100

Oceanlab's most recent material officially, even if Justine Suissa and Above and Beyond have continued to work together and collaborate on multiple tracks. I'm biased, cause even if this isn't the best Oceanlab song, I still absolutely enjoy this song so much. I'm old enough to remember losing it to seeing the news that Oceanlab posted a new song, all the way back when I was a teenager, and being grateful they followed up Sirens of the Sea with pretty much anything in ... read more

OceanLab - Satellite
100

Satellite is a masterpiece of a song. It still hits hard after these decades, and it will remain as one of my favorite trance songs ever.

Highly recommend listening to the acoustic version of Satellite, too! Above and Beyond might be the greatest trance music band!

Above & Beyond - Tri-State
90

ABOVE & BEYOND DEEP DIVE PART ONE!
Above and Beyond are the band I consider the absolute peak form of Trance music as a genre, and though this isn't their best album or project, it's such an excellent debut that proves how Trance music can be worthy of an album experience. I consider this to be worthy of conversation of 2000s EDM classics, and I'm proud to own this one on CD!

Tri State as an album doesn't stray far from the admittedly predictable structuring of ... read more

Muse - The 2nd Law
99

EDIT: 100 -> 99. As a long time fan of Muse, with many friends who enjoy their music with me together? This is my favorite Muse album, and I think their most overhated material to date. The 2nd Law was Muse reinventing their sound into something as bombastic as it gets subdued and introspective. It's a colorful, balls to the walls listen that rewards some willingness to stomach early 2010s EDM sounds and the ever-present Muse corniness and flair.

Supremacy is easily one of their most ... read more

Thirty Seconds to Mars - It's the End of the World But It's a Beautiful Day
6

As someone pretty familiar with the 30STM discography up to this point? This is one of the most painfully generic sounding albums I've ever heard. This has almost no identifiable features with anything in their previous discography. The gradual decline in quality from a solid arena rock album like This Is War, to the mediocre faux-political commentary album of America, should genuinely be studied as an example of how to fumble the bag when you started so strong as a band.

However, this ... read more

Drake - If You're Reading This It's Too Late
39

Let's get something off the bat; I don't hate everything Drake makes. As embarrassing as it can sound now in 2025, when I was much younger I used to listen to a fair number of Drake songs, even listened through at least a couple of his albums and mixtapes including this and Views!

I cannot understate how much I've fallen off of enjoying anything about this project. It's so aggressively mid at best while outright aging poorly, knowing how much was ghost written and ... read more

Narco Debut - Garden Dreams
96

Digging into my underrated nostalgic favorites! This is an incredibly solid EP, as a math rock/midwest emo fan and metal/rock fan in general, I love how fresh Garden Dreams still sounds to this day. At points incredibly bright but also so dark and melancholic, there is such a great range of sound here that is worth discussing!

Wait & Breathe is an incredibly energetic, yet well paced opener with a wide dynamic range. The instrumentation masterfully balances quiet and explosive moments, ... read more

"I watched my grandpa say penis!"

This album was surely an experience with friends to listen to! As entertaining as some moments are, this is the Biodome of painfully unfunny musical experiences. I doubt this is much better in context of the DAVE show, and I doubt I'll be revisiting this much.

All I can say is Lil Dicky painfully bites a lot of flows and other production styles of other artists and rappers on so many tracks, it almost becomes insulting. Extremely difficult to ... read more

Viva la Vida needs no introduction. This is undoubtedly the magnum opus of Coldplay's discography, one of their most musically ambitious projects, and nothing short of a modern art masterpiece. I've listened to this album so many times over the years, jammed to it playing along on piano, or singing my heart out to each song. It doesn't get old or worn out, and instead every relisten brings more comfort and appreciation as my music taste broadens.

Life in Technicolor is the ... read more

NAV - Demons Protected By Angels
45

Edit: I've had to relisten to this album, and it's not AS bad as I remembered it being. Even if the mixing isn't great, many tracks have well produced instrumentals with good transitions. Some of Nav's most entertaining and also introspective lyrics yet, with surprisingly good chemistry with features like on Dead Shot, Never Sleep, or Interstellar.

Even though I still think there's quite a few misses, this album got me laughing at some points, nodding my head at ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
100

Happy [a couple days late] 10th Birthday, to one of the greatest albums ever made.
What else can be said about To Pimp A Butterfly that anyone else hasn't already said? I can offer at least my own experience finding this album, and how it has helped me over many years.

To Pimp A Butterfly was the album that, even if I was already a fan of hiphop and rap music before, blew my teenage mind and truly made me appreciate the genres as ART. The concept and storytelling is executed perfectly. ... read more

AJR - The Maybe Man
94

As a music producer, songwriter, and giant music nerd, I've listened to many albums that have been critically well received, and enjoy music that doesn't really need to be "defended". However, it's hard to not go into an earnest AJR review without feeling some sense of not being taken seriously. How could you defend a band that gets THIS critically panned?

Simply put, because I don't think this album sucks. In fact, I think AJR has consistently improved in album ... read more

The Avalanches - Since I Left You
100

I'm gonna thank my friend, a very lovely woman for putting me on with this album. There's no review I could give that would do justice to how well put together this album is. Track by track flow is immaculate. It can be a little overwhelming at some points, maybe because I've got a headache as I'm listening and writing this, but I absolutely love this album.

Since I Left You sits in the same bracket of enjoyment I get from something like The Fat Of The Land, or ... read more

clipping. - CLPPNG
95

This is honestly one of the nuttiest debut rap albums I've heard in a long time. I got into clipping. a couple years ago, at least thanks to a Kmac2021 cover of story 2 of all things, and I'll keep this review short and sweet.

If you cannot handle harsh noise, or you might have trouble with stomaching more horrific or gorey themes, this album might not be up your alley. If you love a good scary movie, and if you are interested in hearing some incredible production with INSANE ... read more

Black Eyed Peas - ELEVATION
2

Simply the best is simply the best song on the album. For a bar that is well below basement level to be cleared.

That song is what keeps this from being a complete drop zero for me. This album is otherwise horrendously bland, even offensively bad at points like on Filipina Queen. ELEVATION is showing it's ass at way too many points, to be nearly as fun as something like The E.N.D. This might be The END for the Black Eyed Peas as a musical act, at least, it says a lot they've not ... read more

The Pharcyde - Runnin'
100

IT'S 1995🗣‼️🔥

Genuinely one of the best 90s rap songs I've ever heard. This beat is beyond fantastic, J Dilla truly deserves the flowers here and every verse flows perfectly on top of this beat. That hook is so damn nostalgic, finding this song again after years since I last heard it feels like a warm hug.

There's nothing like a fucking Quaaludes.

Placebo - Battle for the Sun
82

So, this is my first review, and as a Placebo fan I wanted to give my two cents on whether this album is truly as mid as the ratings would have you believe.

In short, this is a much better album than reviews led me on to believe.

Kitty Litter is a solid opening song. I don't think it's the best Placebo opener but it sets the tpne quite well with a good chord progression, and Brian Molko's vocal delivery is as solid as usual.

Ashtray Heart is another fine song, with some ... read more

On TheMachine's review of Above & Beyond - Bigger Than All Of Us
"I totally get you on trying to find modern EDM projects, from legacy acts or new artists alike that feel properly complete as albums. If you want an EDM album that feels like a proper start to finish experience and storytelling masterpiece, even if it's something that might be initially out there? I have to recommend Vylet Pony's new album "Love and Ponystep". It's an excellent mix of EDM styles (namely brostep) but tells a really hard hitting story to match (featuring the narrator VA from Disco Elysium, Lenval Brown, no less!) Anyways I fully agree with how phenomenal this album is. Said more in my own review but this is definitely their best material since Group Therapy and Sirens of the Sea. Well worth the wait after Common Ground!"
On i chased a crow's review of Vylet Pony - Monarch of Monsters
"One of the most honest reviews I've read yet. I'm glad this album connected and helped you too. This really is one of the best musical experiences of all time."
On D603136's review of Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
"When you've got the time, I highly recommend going back to this album and following along with the story it tells. Top Five Videos as a character in this album has one of the most deeply relatable BPD and relationship breakup + subsequent spiraling experiences ever, and there's a serious self help message underneath the memes and bass music. Great review, though!"
On sciencefairs's review of Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
"You nailed it on the fucking head here with how it sucks when people trash on art that seriously helped you, but furthermore, refuse to engage with it seriously or even outright missing the narrative, the greater points in the music, and judging it on the most base level surface things and "cringe" parts. Vylet Pony's music isn't gonna be for everyone as it tackles specific transfem neurodivergent experiences, but like. Albums like Monarch of Monsters helped me kick a multiple years long nicotine addiction and process serious trauma. This album is doing even more for me on that front. This shit saves lives. That's real art and real powerful music that can't be written off easily."
On endlessangels's review of Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
"I'm glad we all agree Falling In Love With A Corporate Illustration and Walking Beside A Dragonfly are amazing songs LOL"
On mangoat's review of Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
"@mangoat and, was the ableism warranted? Maybe you are one of us but that still doesn't make it not weird lol."
On Esbi's review of Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
"This album is even better when you've got context with Girls Who Are Wizards, Carousel, I Was The Loner Of Paradise Valley, CUTIEMARKS and Can Openers Notebook in mind. Love and Ponystep is the perfect sequel to all of it."
On mangoat's review of Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
"Genuinely a weird comment to leave on unironically good transfem art tbh"
On Ins3ct's review of CRAZYJustice - Be The Villain
"Unironically one of the funniest and best reviews I've ever seen on AOTY. Thank you for this masterpiece review."
On jaderemover21's review of Vylet Pony - Monarch of Monsters
"Absolute freaking W statement. This album was something I was terrified to listen to based upon every content warning I've gotten about it, I had a gut feeling this would have been an emotional nuclear bomb but nah you're so right. This truly is one of the greatest albums ever made. W to transfems and MLP fans and furries and internet subculture fans everywhere."

On BetaR0c's review of Angels & Airwaves - We Don't Need to Whisper
"Atom Willard has to be one of the best drummers in rock music, you can tell he had a lot of fun recording and playing the drums for this album. Jeff "Critter" Newell is also a great sound engineer who really brought the drum tone to the nines."
On HalfsourDyl's review of OneRepublic - Waking Up
"Thank you for having the courage to defend one of my favorite overhated and underrated albums ever. Waking Up is one of my favorite albums ever, it's so nostalgic and important to how my music taste formed as it was the first album I ever listened to in full when it released in 2009."
On winternimbus's review of Vylet Pony - Monarch of Monsters
"This genuinely is one of the most raw, uncomfortably personal yet entirely relevant points to make when it comes to music I've ever seen in any music review. I've had to take a long time to come up with my thoughts on Monarch of Monsters, and yet we know how much this album impacts us as transfem people. I genuinely think this is one of the best albums of all time, and this review should be taken seriously."
On Cyiniz's review of AJR - The Maybe Man
"As much as I could disagree about how much the lyrics connected on some of these songs, I'm glad you still gave this album a fair shake. I am relistening to The Maybe Man as I'm writing this comment. It's a good album."
