A$AP Rocky - LIVE.LOVE.A$AP
70

A trance-inducing exploration on display by Rocky. The only thing that holds back the entire experience is the wordplay, as it feels quite generic in comparison to what the instrumentals give. Despite its 2011 release, it still feels like it could've released anytime during the 2010s.

A$AP Rocky - PUNK ROCKY
80

High energy, fun, and a very revealing sound to be the first single for A$AP Rocky's forthcoming "DON'T BE DUMB". Unlike the sound I've become accustomed to for Rocky, this features a fun backing track, an overarching story, and a certain punkness that isn't heard for a forthcoming rapper's album. Very exciting stuff, making me very excited to hear what the rest of "DON'T BE DUMB" will have.

Jack Stauber - Pop Food
80

Ever sweet, ever-loving. Jack Stauber's Pop Food is fast approaching ten years from its release, yet it remains as one of the most fun and well-crafted pop albums I have had the pleasure of listening to.

A collection of tracks themed around love, food, and little pockets of fun and hidden youthful deviances. Stauber explores a wide range of sonic angles, going from warm and soft-sounding Lo-Fi bedroom pop to more electric swing and new wave in instrumentals. Stauber's production ... read more

Kanye West - The College Dropout
90

Over 20 years from its release, "The College Dropout" remains a standout album from Kanye West.

I began to listen to Kanye back in High School, always curious about the rapper but never taking the time to actually delve into his projects. I had heard of his features; I was aware of his production on some songs I had already heard, but I had never heard the artist himself. I clicked play, and suddenly I was the biggest fan.

What stands out from West compared to many other MCs is his ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
90

A cinematic concept album that leads the audience on a whirlwind of emotions and unexpected concepts. Kendrick Lamar's "good kid, m.A.A.d city is a near-perfect album that has incredible production, wordplay, and a high level direction that only a true artist can create.

Djo - The Crux
70

A fun little album.

A simple pop album that features nice harmonies and vocals, being aware that it's wearing its influences a bit too proudly on its sleeve.

torr - CRASH BOGUS
60

Although featuring some interesting tracks, it feels like your bog-standard pop and indie rock album you may find elsewhere. I do find some of the ideas and certain elements do work, but the overall experience just doesn't come together.

Grace Jones - Portfolio
50

Although the songs are produced quite well, I constantly search for the voice of Grace Jones. It feels like I'm just waiting for that "moment" in the album, only to find it just ends with no fanfare or excitement.

Frost Children - Aviation Creates Adventurous Beginnings
30

Frost Children try to find their sound. It's clear they are trying to find what works and what doesn't, but it leads to a very confusing album.

Much of the tracks feature what I would describe as "electronic vomit", before having long sections of glitch-pop and hyperpop layered on top. A feeling of directionless is felt all throughout the whole project, not knowing whether to chase the sound of the time, or to forge themselves as something new. By the end of the 29 minute ... read more

betcover!! - 勇気 [Yuki]
80

An amazing fusion of jazz and rock. It's produced wonderfully, the tracks all have the time I believe they deserve to explore the ideas, and it just feels great to listen to. Easily the best thing about the album is the instrumentals. Great layering and composing create a list of songs I want to just listen to and see if I can catch any new instruments I may have missed.

Westside Gunn - HEELS HAVE EYES
60

It's an okay loose EP that only really has one track that I enjoyed ("EGYPT"). However, it's still undeniable how well-crafted Westside Gunn's production and instrumentals are.

Jane Remover - ♡
70

Jane Remover has quickly become one of my favorite artists to follow. Over the past year, they have produced what has been my album of the year. I have come to appreciate their sophomore album, 'Census Designated.' This new EP by them, '♡', is good...But I do think people are a little exaggerating how great it is.

Remover continues their streak of great releases with '♡', their fourth release this year, where Remover continues to experiment with new sounds. ... read more

Bruno Pernadas - How Can We Be Joyful in a World Full of Knowledge?
60

It's a good listen, though it drags quite a bit throughout its tracks. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great listen and I can see many really enjoying the variety it offers.

Red Vox - Another Light
60

A great-sounding album that is held back by simple lyrics.

Growing up on Rock and Roll, before really getting into Psychedelic Rock during my teen years, I had listened to this album quite religiously. It was just the right mix of high-energy tracks that was then contrasted against more bleak and moody songs. Tracks like "Reno" or "From the Stars" stand out to me after the album left my rotation, offering the most variation in terms of singing and writing.

The writing, ... read more

femtanyl - BODY THE PISTOL
60

A fun listen, but there is just something...missing about this track.

femtanyl's sound choice and mixing style was always harsh and leaned towards a preference of everything blending together. It worked in other singles like "LOVESICK, CANNIBALL!", but I found it really didn't in this one. Much of the lyrics and verses got buried in the mix, making it difficult to discern what was being done in the track. The instrumental wasn't my cup of tea, but I can appreciate how ... read more

death's dynamic shroud - I'll Try Living Like This
60

A few years back, I had found the track "너 땜에 맘이 맘이 맘이 맘이 괴로워요". It was...strange, an otherworldly song that I couldn't find anywhere else. Jump forward a number of years, where I finally listen to the album it came from.

It's fine. I completely understand why many have enjoyed "I'll Try Living Like This". It's quite a cozy album, with each track offering different sonic avenues to explore often in what samples it uses or ... read more

The Weeknd - Echoes Of Silence
60

A fine enough way to end the original Trilogy of tapes The Weeknd had started.

Although it features some stellar instrumentals and a focus on a much more brooding darkness, the lack of changes in its structure and tone creates a somewhat droning experience. It improves on what was the second mixtape, "Thursday", but doesn't go outside of the comforts The Weeknd has found with "House of Balloons". Despite just listening to the tape, I found nothing really sticking to ... read more

Jamie Paige - Constant Companions (Deluxe Edition)
70

A very fun pop and electric album. As a fan of Jamie Paige after finding her track "Machine Love", I decided to check out more of her work.

This album is great, don't get me wrong... yet I do feel that the tracks do go on for a long while without much change occurring. Some do, such is the case of "BIRDBRAIN (feat. OK Glass)" with interesting inflection changes to the vocals, in addition to the swelling of certain instruments in its second half. On the other side of ... read more

The Delfonics - La La Means I Love You
60

A sweet, single-noted, heart-pouring album. The Delfonics release of "La La Means I Love You" is a great listen, though by the end of its 31-minute 11-track run, it does get a little boring and repetitive to hear and listen to the same themes most of the tracks share. Instrumentally speaking, it's smooth and quite well composed. Yet, I would've loved to hear a bit more variety, as it quickly becomes very uninteresting when listened to cover to cover.

Michael Jackson - Off the Wall
90

It's funky! It's fresh! It's Michael Jackson having a ball, and you are invited!

What an incredible, heartwarming album. I spin this whenever I need a quick pick-me-up with some energy.

"@LongWordThatLoo i agree with your assessment. haven't listened to the new single (as i usually only do lead single only for an upcoming album), but i do hope the project isn't just more of this track we've heard here."
