I like how every song is pretty normal, vaguely generic deathcore stuff and then Welcome To The Gulag is just a Tom MacDonald song over blast beats
Tech death with intricacy, complex shreddy solos, and super fun riffs. It’s like they wrote an album just for me
I thought MGK and Trippie Redds EP would be the worst album of the year (besides the Speakerknockerz “album”), but I was wrong.
What a boring album good lord. Also if the best J Cole had to diss Kendrick on is “you’re boring and you fell off” then what was the point of rushing this out
Say what you want about rappers like XXXTENTACION or Juice WRLD or even Trippie Redd, they at least have/had voices that could pull off emo rap. MGK sounds like they just woke him up and told him to record a few verses. MGK doesn’t have the voice or the emotion in his voice to pull off anything emo, so all his emo posturing comes off like a poser kid trying to get with the emo girls in high school. I really like a lot of Ariana’s work but good God this album is so impossibly vague it feels like it was written 3 years ago and just released now to capitalize on tabloid drama
Are they borrowing a whole lot from My Chemical Romance? Yes. Do I still love this album? Also yes
After listening to it I may have been a smidge hyperbolic. Just a smidge
The riffs and solos are cool but the vocals are so poorly produced, and there’s nothing to counter the operatic singing so it’s just poorly placed and produced operatic vocals all the time

"@Toxxicat I generally check out any metal album that gets a lot of positive ratings on here. I’m morbidly curious as to what albums people like on here. I’d rather go into an album with an open mind and not like it than avoid an album because the genre tags aren’t ideal and miss a great album. I mean, I’ve never heard an album from Igorr, I had 0 idea of what to expect, so it’s not like I obviously had an agenda to lower the user score. I also don’t really care about making the user score hit a certain score? If I rated every piece of music I listened to along the lines of what AOTY users rated it, what would be the point of that? And, it’s not an undeserved rating since I genuinely believe and stand by my criticisms of the album."

"@Toxxicat I personally agree that it’s not exactly similar sonically, it’s more that for both Mirar and this album I find the riffs to be similarly uninteresting. I also just generally don’t like electronics in metal, unless the band can combine the sounds together well. I honestly would just rather take the electronic bits out and give me a riff or a hook"
