purl - summer
87

part of me thinks this record's lack of song titles makes it hard to keep track of but it also contributes to an incredibly potent atmosphere of being lost in a damp forest unable to navigate and i really like that about it. this band feels like brain fog

toe - the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety
87

one of these days im gonna make a straightforward math rock album and it will probably sound like a ripoff of this band

Lil Darkie - yang
55

this is fine. i havent heard any of lil darkie's other stuff so i have no perception of any big improvement but this didnt offer me much. i was intrigued by the genre the genre tags but this is a really standard execution of those influences. the shoegaze and alt metal touches were sometimes kind of okay but nothing about them is gonna stick with me. "liar" is the most cookie cutter alternative metal song you'll ever hear.

when the album's not doing alt metal, ... read more

파란노을 [Parannoul] - After the Night

i chased a crow - void II
NR

im turning void into a sporadic series that i can use to make impromptu experiments and quickly express emotions. it's essentially my vent project. anything goes, im not gonna worry about cohesion or palatability or making anything "good". basically if im feeling some type of way but i dont wanna commit to a bigger project, i can shit one of these out. that's kinda what the first one was anyway. im expecting these to be divisive but we'll see i guess, this series is ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong
86

really glad i came into this without unfounded expectations cause i think it's pretty much just as strong as their other work. the highlights here are some of my favorite tracks from the band, ppl really be getting way too attached to their singlular visions of artists

Windowpanes - daydream
85

this made me emotional, absolutely adored the title track. honestly so so excited for what you do next, i believe in u

i chased a crow - void
NR

this thing is a year old but a couple people are finding it now so i would like it to be known that i made this in like 3 days, don't expect anything crazy. i do still really love it for what it is

godfuck - Moonless Earth Theory
92

i really wish godfuck would make a song longer than 2 minutes

your arms are my cocoon - death of a rabbit
91

i always liked this record but ive returned to it a lot more than i thought i would and it's grown on me a lot as ive gotten to know it better

I Built The Sky - The Quiet Place Away
65

the song titles are on the nose as fuck and the album cover is an nft but the music is alright

Quadeca - MONDAY
95

most beautiful shit to have ever blessed my ears

Flowtr - 250416_121357
80

pretty chords, hypnotic strumming pattern, nice background vocal melody in the second half, good groundwork for what will probably be a very good finished track :) super excited for the album

The Brave Little Abacus - just got back from the discomfort—we're alright

in 2 days this became one of my favorite albums ever, genuinely

Origami Angel - re: turn

released in tandem with the depart ep, i like this one way way more. this is where gami shines, this twee ass, heart on the sleeve, sickeningly sweet shit fills my heart up to the brim. it's so god damn cute

Kitchen - Blue heeler in ugly snowlight, grey on gray on gray on white

i fuuuuucking love kitchen so much. some incredibly cutting lyrics about climate change on this record that kind of make me want to curl up into a ball

Mount Eerie - White Stag

"@locustpupil ooo that's promising, im prolly gonna relisten to disc 1 cause as much as i loved it i feel i wasnt as immersed as i could've been the first time i heard it, if i decide to continue this multi part review thing i'll probably write an updated review for disc 1 haha"

"this was fantastic to read. thank you for putting so much thought and care into this. it means the world that something i made could stir such vivid imagery and empathy within a person, and you painted that picture very clearly and eloquently. i love all your interpretations, abstract or otherwise. you pretty much clocked the headspace i was in while i made this perfectly, from the lyrics to what the instrumental represents. some of it i hadn't even thought about concretely but i felt it while i was making it and reading this gave me a bit of clarity in some ways so thank you for that as well. you're a great writer and storyteller and i hope you keep at this :)) tysm!!!! <3"

"@tozokuu ! tysm!! no worries at all, it means the world that you bought it in the first place. this ep specifically i cant put on apple music because i have transphobic family who listen to my stuff and use that service, and it would out me if they heard this. that is, if they were able to grasp what the ep is about lol. everything else ive made is on there though :)"

On i chased a crow - Trees
"@fritter_blue hahaha i dont dislike the song or anything like that, i think it's very good and im super proud of what i accomplished with it considering it was my first "finished" project. i do get why ppl gravitate toward it, it's very easy to listen to. just observing and giving my own thoughts on it, as for why i waited a while to start doing more experimental stuff it's simply cause i didn't have the skills or taste back then lol. the only reason trees sounds the way it does is cause i wasn't as well versed, i only discovered phil elverum like a couple years ago and that's when i'd say i really started becoming a more of a music nerd"

On evil's review of Lil Darkie - yang
"i didnt think this was nearly abysmal as you did but i generally agree with the points made in this review and find it very well written. some stuff you said about the nature of the album as a piece of art and josh's intentions are maybe a little unfounded but those points are definitely applicable to a lot of recent releases and i can see where you got that impression. i wont pretend to know what dude was thinking when he made this but i do feel like it's a genuine and heartfelt attempt at expressing real emotions, whether or not i think it stuck the landing in a particularly mature way"

On scarliee's review of i chased a crow - Tobias's theme / Harlow's theme
"i adore your interpretation that their themes are from each other's perspectives, without spoiling the album's story i'll say that you're right in a way lol. i built the sky isn't my thing anymore but i actually listened to a lot of his stuff and instrumental prog metal in general like 6 years ago. it probably wouldn't be too far fetched to say the melodic songwriting style of that genre rubbed off on me :)"
