Bob Dylan - Planet Waves

Dylan Discography Pt14

Planet Waves is very much the start of something better but that doesn't mean its not great in its own way. All of the tracks on here were at least solid with some greats mixed in there namely Forever Young and Going Going Gone. For a number of years leading up to Planet Waves Dylan had seemingly been shifting in style and I believe this album marks the turning point for that shift. It's very good overall but to me it feels like he wants to break out just that ... read more

Dylan Discography Pt13

This album is very similar to Self Portrait in the way that everyone seems to hate it. Personally I think it's mostly undeserved. The first tracks were very well done and for the most part, the rest of them were similar in quality besides a few. It really does puzzle me why this is rated so low when it has a lot of experiments to.offer that obviously differ in quality hut at least it's something out there. Obviously the circumstances surrounding it aren't ... read more

Dylan Discography Pt12

It's a real shame that 90% of this album is really a letdown. But the other 10% is what I want to talk about for the time being. Knockin' on Heaven's Door is possibly one of if not the greatest track Dylan has ever put out. It's of of the few that can come close to Like a Rolling Stone. The difference between two is that the latter has a lot more energy whereas the former leaves you feeling empty. Although that's not a bad thing, it makes sense: ... read more

Bob Dylan - New Morning
72

Dylan Discography Pt11

New Morning really was the birth of a new era for Dylan. After the experimental and somewhat despised Self Portrait, Dylan takes an artistic direction that feels very different to his usual release. New Morning is a mixture of emotions since you have tracks like the title one and The Man in Me but also on the other hand you have Winterlude. Dylan's eleventh release is quite conflicting but I personally think it's a great addition to his ever growing empire.

Bob Dylan - Self Portrait

Dylan Discography Pt10

Self Portrait is often bigged-up to be some steaming shit pile smashed between the gold that Dylan produces, and why I don't think it comes anywhere close to his previous records, I have to disagree with that opinion. Yes it is very true that there are some very bad tracks (for example the butchered re-recording of Like a Rolling Stone), ones like Let it Be Me and even Little Sadie scrape back some points. It's very unique and most definitely marks a new era ... read more

Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding

Dylan Discography Pt8

I'm honestly conflicted in my opinion of this album. I feel as though it will slowly grow on me with relistens since I've only heard it twice: i also thinks it's nice for Dylan to return to a more folky style compared to his prior releases. I think a song I really enjoyed and want to convey its underrated-ness is I Pity the Poor Immigrant. It's very direct in its meaning and has that signature Dylan folk melancholy to it that is sometimes missed in his ... read more

Atilla might b the most overrated bm vocalist of all time at least in the big bands. Guy has nothing on Ihsahn, Nocturno Culto etc etc.

Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline

Dylan Discography Pt9

Nashville Skyline is truly an enigma. Dylan's return after two years since John Wesley Harding left an intriguing impression. It's impossible to shy away from the fact that it's very different to his prior records especially vocally: instead of his usual raspy tones, Dylan elects to go clean which I think really helped the album. It feels very whimsical and fun in a way that's very difficult to express or to put into words but all around it's ... read more

Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home

Dylan Discography Pt5

One of the greatest records ever made by a human being. After a good many years making classic folk tunes Dylan goes seemingly off the rails with a blazing bold rock album and by God does it pay off. This single album has some of the best tracks in any genre ever made - Subterranean Homesick Blues, Mr. Tambourine Man, It's All Over Now Baby Blue, Gates of Eden. It truly is something special and has influenced an astronomical amount of artists o pursue greatness ... read more

Dylan Discography Pt4

I often find it very difficult to say how I feel about Dylan's fourth release because we have tracks like My Back Pages and It Aint Me Babe but on the other hand we have I Shall Be Free No. 10. It's truly perplexing and leaves me in a weird sense of being satisfied yet disappointed. In my opinion his previous record had a lot more to give and did so willing whereas this one just seems semi-lackluster in comparison. But then again if it weren't for it, some ... read more

Dylan Discography Pt1

I previously said I felt I couldn't rate this since most of it is covers which is still think is true to some extent. I started listening to every Dylan studio album chronologically and had some time to better reflect on his debut self titled record. While yes there is a lot of covers I do think Bob adds a lot to them (for example his version of House of the Risin' Sun as well as In My Time of Dyin') so I feel as though I can fairly rate it now. ... read more

Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin'
90

Dylan Discography Pt3

He really dropped one of the best folk albums of the mid twentieth century then proceeded to drop THE best folk album maybe ever (at least from what I've heard). The Times They Are A-Changin' is very foreshadowing for Dylan as a person which may lend to how sad it leaves you when listening. This is by no means a bad thing; it's a very somber listen especially when you have tracks like The Lonesome Death of Poor Hattie Carroll and the title track itself. In ... read more

Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde

Dylan Discography Pt7

Blonde on Blonde is very unique in the way that it's very much a rock album and the third and final part of Dylan's electric trilogy however it's not traditional like the previous two in a way I find very difficult to describe. The only way I can semi get across what I mean is to me it feels more 'swingy' if that makes sense at all. Whatever it is or however one describes it, it's very very good. It has a lot more 'fun' songs than ... read more

Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

Dylan Discography Pt2

Dylan's second album is his first with almost a complete set of original compositions (11 out of 13 to be precise) and they are some damn good ones. From the folk music gold that is Blowin' in the Wind to the somber protest that is Masters of War Dylan really came out the gate swinging. This truly is a folk legend coming into his own and doing something special. As Edward Norton said in the movie - "You brought a shovel".

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
100

Dylan Discography Pt6

So far I've had to change each of my ratings for Dylan's previous releases for better or for worse but not this one. No matter how many times you hear it, Highway 61 Revisited is still the same bundle of perfection that it was all those years ago in 1965. Dylan somehow managed to craft possibly the greatest record anyone has ever dared to make because nothing I have ever heard comes close to Highway 61 Revisited and I don't think anything ever will. Dylan ... read more
