Possibly my favorite shoegaze album that I discovered on a whim because there was a cat on the cover. A great blend of shoegaze and dream pop that stands out among other shoegaze albums attempting the same thing. Silence stands out to me as an angelic vocal performance and I just love slow build-ups.
A very interesting mix of cinematic classical and breakcore that fits the style of the movie incredibly well. I personally preferred the more cinematic classical tracks during meaningful emotional scenes over the intense breakcore during fight scenes but I can see preferring either.
My second favorite The Flaming Lips album with an incredible synthesized symphonic sound created before the 21st century that is just absurd to think about. It has stood up really well over the years and I've only learned to appreciate it more as time has gone on.
Gorillaz were way ahead of their time with this record, sounding like something that came out today with classics such as Feel Good Inc. and DARE. Danger Mouse's production cannot be underappreciated on this record and the various features also elevate it to another level.
A staple in the experimental hip hop genre and solidified Danny in the genre. The depths of Danny's psyche that it analyzes is so extensive and you can really see his state of mind at the time through the lyrics and samples. The production cannot be praised enough with Paul White doing an incredible job. In particular his production on Ain't It Funny combined with Danny's vocal performance makes it breach into my top 10 songs oat.
Edges it out over the base game and B-sides soundtracks for me with a more cohesive feeling ethereal experience that accompanies some difficult platforming so you'll really get to experience the craft put into the music. The shorter in-game event tracks bring it down a bit but luckily don't overstay their welcome in the album version.
Tied with Scaring the Hoes for my favorite Peggy project and is just incredible front to back. I've never put in the effort to directly compare the Offline and Online versions of the tracks but the additional tracks on this version push it over the online version fairly handily for me. In particular, HAZARD DUTY PAY! is a top 10 song oat and is one of the best sample loops I've ever heard.
My preferred producer x rapper album if you don't count Luv(sic) Hexalogy as imo, Black Thought is the best at rapping of any rapper and matching him with an experienced producer like Danger Mouse just isn't fair to the rest. Possibly the best collection of features as well since you know the rappers had to pull out their best to be able to keep up with Black Thought with some standout verses from A$AP Rocky and RTJ on Strangers. Aquamarine has also found itself in my top songs oat ... read more
Tied with LP! (Offline Version) as my favorite JPEGMAFIA project and solidified both Peggy and Danny as my favorites in the experimental rap genre. The insane samples on this album blow my mind, showing just how good of a producer Peggy is and they both rap so well over them with Danny standing out as always.
Possibly my favorite truly underground rock release from a local band in my hometown. I was introduced to them when they opened for Strawberry Milk Cult years ago and I've stuck with them every since. I just adore the style and substance of this album and can't wait to see what they do next.
My favorite live album and one I've seen live as well a few months before this performance. The slight changes go a long way turning it into an incredible live album complete with Wayne Coyne hyping up the crowd and the introduction from the Mayor of OKC.
Would arguably be as good as TPAB imo if some of the weaker tracks were removed like Poetic Justice, BDKMV, and Swimming Pools but that's just my personal preference. Even with those tracks it's still the best storytelling album of all time and solidified Kendrick as one of the greatest rappers of all time. It also features two songs in my top songs oat, those being Good Kid and SAMIDOT.
An arguably better collab album than Madvillainy and superior imo with incredible jazz rap production and meaningful love filled lyrics. While Shing02 doesn't compare to MF Doom, I prefer Nujabes' production over Madlib, edging this album out for me. Out of all the parts, Luv(sic) Grand Finale stands out to me as their best work and lands itself in my top songs oat.
Music so atmospheric is blends perfectly into the world of Hollow Knight that you barely even notice it while playing. What Christopher Larkin has done here is incredible and is only further made impressive by the consistent quality of the DLC and Silksong soundtracks.
A beautiful collection of various styles that make up an amazing soundtrack for an all time classic hero shooter. Valve knows very well how to make a good soundtrack and the addition of the Meet the Team series featuring the songs brings them to a whole new level.
One of my favorite rap albums of all time with some of the best jazz production out there. McKinley continues to prove himself as a staple of underground rap with an incredible follow up to Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? that does effectively the same thing but better. It did take me a bit to truly appreciate the album and understand its concept but once it clicked it clicked hard. Despite being barely over 2 and a half minutes long, Magic, Alive! is an incredible track that has breached into my top ... read more
Wish You Were Here slightly edges it out imo but that doesn't take away from this still being an incredibly album. The progression of the album as you listen is unmatched and works so well. The Great Gig in the Sky is my favorite with just an incredible vocal performance. It's crazy that an album as hyped up as this one can live up to its insane reputation and arguably even surpass it.
Just barely edges it out over TDSOTM for me but they're truly both incredible feats that were way ahead of their time. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (1-5) is one of my top songs of all time and shows just how good slow buildups can be in songs. Each song is over 5 minutes but doesn't overstay their welcome. The sense of longing demonstrated in this album is just haunting and makes you feel for them through every lyric. A staple in the Prog Rock/Art Rock genre.
Possibly my favorite album oat with my favorite song oat. Yoshimi is the pinnacle of The Flaming Lips in my opinion and shows why they're so distinct and original in the music world. Fight Test is one of the best intro tracks of all time and the rest of the track list is borderline flawless. Yoshimi Pt. 2 can be hard to get into but you learn to appreciate it and I couldn't write this review without mentioning Do You Realize??. It's my favorite song of all time as it's just ... read more
Three incredible songs are all this needs to boost this Deluxe Edition over the original with the perfect balance of introspective songs like Black Boy Fly, great sample flips like The Recipe, and grand celebratory beats like Now or Never.
