This was so disappointing I honestly don’t really want to write this review. “Teens of Denial" turned 10 years old this year, so naturally, for the celebration of this the band decided to release an absolutely butchered version of an album adored by casual and dedicated fans alike.
It’s just upsetting, man. When we first started getting teasers for something releasing on ToD’s 10th anniversary, my mind started racing with all the things it could entail. Could we ... read more
New Vylet album cycle, you knew I was coming.
I think it’s a shock to absolutely nobody that I adore this album. Not only am I one of the greatest Vylet Pony glazers to ever walk this planet, but I’ve loved every time she’s attempted a sound closer to hip-hop (i.e. “Dual Headed Hydranoid” & “Paintbucket”), so the news of a full length rap tape from Gwen had me hyped. Knowing her amazing writing, her even better production, and her success with ... read more
This album is almost everything wrong with the attempted "hyperpop revival" that has come in the advent of the brat summer. Pawcord's "STEREOTYPICAL MUSIC 4 U" is everything it wants to be right down to the name, it's a soulless rehash of sounds done years ago by people who actually cared about the music they made. There is LITERALLY nothing to enjoy on this album that you can't find on another album released in the last five years.
Do you want the production ... read more
After only hearing "Obey" late last year, I thought I had heard everything I needed to understand what Brainbombs was going for, and who they were appealing to. I went under the mindset that they were just another boring shock band with no real substance backing them. I found them suffering from the same problems I see a lot of the Pigfuck bands I've heard suffering from, like prioritizing the edgy lyrics so high above the actual sound of the music that most of my problems come ... read more
This review has been hard for me to write for a majority of reasons. For one, it’s very difficult to write a review for an album and artist that you love dearly after they have passed, at least for me. There’s this feeling I have where I want to be able to say everything about the artist that I wanted to when they were alive, even if I hadn't discovered them before their passing, and trying to put all of those feelings and nuances into words is very, very difficult.
Secondly, ... read more
Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is often seen as one of the greatest albums conjured up by the human mind, and honestly, throughout all of the years that it has been out, all of the years since its initial release and praise, that statement could not be farther from the truth. At this time this could've been seen as an amazing moment of self awareness, maybe. This could've been the brave foot forward that I've heard it described as for years. This ... read more
this sounds like if the brave little abacus was on friends house records and i think that's awesome
This conflicts me. On one hand, I felt this lacked a good sense of cohesion, it felt less like multiple parts of one song and more some vague ideas cobbled together to what put on the façade of a fully realized idea, not only that but there were some sounds or frequencies in here that seriously upset my ears and were even painfully grating, mainly from the very feedback-y strings and what I believe to be bells. But on the other hand, that's kind of why I enjoy it? Like I ... read more
"Ending the year terribly, I see"
"Yeah, yeah just give me the copy paste slacker rock album, same as last year"
"As you wish"
Shooter keeps up his yearly tradition of dropping his schlock at the dead end of the year and hoping everyone forgets about it, and boy I wish I did. While this a mild improvement from last year's "Bullet Hell", it maintains the same formula of doing the same exact thing on every song, and while not actively grating this ... read more
Such a gorgeous little collection of nice Christmas songs, that being saud, this is just more Sufjan to me. Don't get me wrong, he is an amazing musician, but like, in the grand scheme of his discography this isn't really that special.
I don't have much else to say but I need to review this for the FL list I'm way behind on, Merry Christmas.
Happy Hearthswarming everypony. With Christmas coming up and a new year on the horizon, we welcome this year's No Matter What, and God, it's beautiful. Now if you're reading this you've most likely heard the EP as well, you know how stunning Arceus and Creature Man are, I don't need to remind you of the beauty you just heard, so I'm here to thank you all for an amazing extra year on this site.
As I reach my second year on AOTY, and my first (and a half) on RYM, I ... read more
The big 2k.
I found out about this absolute monster of a project sometime last year. If I recall correctly, I was talking to my friend Styg about long albums and how I wanted to delve into longer and longer projects. Hearing about a project this large, a fabled full day of nonstop auditory bliss, immediately cemented the goal in my mind to listen to this, whether it be in the next month, or in the waiting years of my life, I desperately wanted to hear this record. So here I sit, at the very ... read more
I saw this get released at the beginning of the year and went "Wow, I should listen!" Happy December 15th guys! I'm struggling to find the words for this, not in the way I meant with "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships" but moreso "What did I just hear". Huremic is an alias of well known and respected Korean shoegazer Parannoul and honestly going in I had expected something much, much different than what I actually heard. I had thought this would be ... read more
This feels like something warm and personal, but it just doesn't click with me. I wanted to really love this for a majority of reasons, mainly NJ pride, but I've heard so many albums that do something just like this, so many so that this formula barely does anything for me anymore. I'm sure that if I had heard this say a few years ago I would've absolutely adored it but nowadays it's just kind of nothing to me.
This sentiment doesn't mean that there's nothing ... read more
If you're anything like me, your only exposure to Jamiroquai up to this point would've been the chorus to his song "Virtual Insanity" back when that got big a few years back, from that I had assumed that he would've been some sort of alt-pop artist, fun but not all too unique in the grand scheme of things. Imagine my shock when the first track started, and I am absolutely floored by what I'm hearing. Everything about this record is so infectious, the grooves, ... read more
This album had been on my radar since it released back in January, with it showing up in my Apple Music recommended, and I can't believe it took me this long to get to. I hadn't really known what to expect, with this being the music of a YouTuber and that whole sub-genre of musician being extremely hit or miss, but I'm happy to say that this was able to deliver.
There's a sort of familiar warmth on here that I really like, you can really tell that Alex cares about and likes ... read more
As my first (conscious) interaction with Bad Bunny's music, I can totally understand why he is one of if not the most popular artist in the world right now. I say this a lot, but this whole album is so fun, it's gushing with great rhythms, a potent personality, catchy melodies, you can absolutely tell how much love, passion, and care went into this whole thing.
Bad Bunny's voice is something I'd like to point out in particular. He uses his voice in such different and ... read more
I'm struggling to write anything on this. A majority of the time I spent listening to this it had forcefully pushed itself to the back of my mind, even despite me actively trying to pay attention and listen to the album, and it's because of this that I hardly remember any specifics. I remember the first 4 or 5 tracks being pretty good, as well as the closer being great, but other than that it's hard to recall any specific moments from any point in the record. The general ... read more
