Another album with worldwide pop star Lady Gaga and a final goodbye for the greatest crooner of all time, Tony Bennett. What could go wrong? Not much. Nothing groundbreaking either. This is an excellent collection of jazz standards, mostly written and composed by Cole Porter. It's a great way for Gaga to showcase her stunning voice on songs like Do I Love You. I really think she is made for jazz and I enjoy this much more than her pop songs. I don't see a problem with this album, it's just good.
What else can I say about this troubled and tortured woman who happens to be the best singer of our generation? Everything has been said. Well, it's not quite true. People like to condense artists into a sentence or two without thinking much about the real issue, and no one ever really wants to face it. I really think she wanted to say something with this album. Ouch, that hurts. I must say, this isn't a bad score at all. I see this as pretty good. It's just not up to the standards of a Michael Jackson's album. I've been thinking hard about this review, and it took me some time to get it right.
As many have already said, it feels uninspired. I think MJ was ready for another challenge in his life and didn't have the desire to do music anymore. He was becoming more and more of a father and wanted to get into the movie industry. Songs like 2000 Watts, ... read more
After a few listens, I can totally understand the hype. In fact, I'll feed the hype. This album is so good. I can't explain why, but it makes me feel like I'm walking down a cold Montreal street in winter. It's definitely one of the best debuts of all time, and definitely one of my favorite albums. Now I have to visit the other albums of the band.
One of MJ's best albums in my opinion: let me explain before you get upset. HIStory was recorded at a strange time in his life. He was literally being targeted by the media, his image was starting to deteriorate and he was no longer being treated like the king of pop. Because of all the mess that was going on, he released this album. This is HIS story, and you can feel it. It's so personal and that's all you need to understand his situation.
With all the pain and rage he's been holding inside ... read more
