Haven’t had time to post reviews in awhile. I’ve got enough time to support the cause though
This might end up being the weirdest project of the year. Unironically this is more likely to scare the hoes. It's an absolute mess, but that's kinda what's enjoyable about it. Admittedly I didn't enjoy this as much as Luv is Rage 2 but it actually managed to keep my attention and that's something I can't say for many Uzi projects. It seems like the general consensus around this album is that everyone has something different that they like about it and I find that really precious. Besides the ... read more
Disappointed, I think that's the only word I could use to describe my feelings about this album, and honestly I don't know why. I shouldn't and have never had any expectations for a project from Durk, but I just ended a semester where I had classes on Gangsta and Drill music where we spoke about him a lot. It honestly made me feel really bad for the guy and wish the best for him, but damn is his music boring for the most part. This album has a surprisingly strong opening with Pelle Coat into ... read more
I really just wanted to avoid this album, I knew I wouldn't like it and I had no interest in hate listening the entire hour runtime of this album, but people just would not stop talking about this damn album. Unsurprisingly, I hated almost every second of it. If this is someone's cup of tea I'm happy for them, but this is just insufferable for me, from the ridiculous vocals to the really weird genre fusions and the very commercial sounding production for the majority, I just felt like I was ... read more
This is such a difficult rating to give an unbiased look at. I listened to this when it dropped and honestly thought it was mid to straight ass at times, but then I saw the movie and it's too heavily linked to how impactful that movie was on me. The two are basically inseparable in my mind as every song feels like watching scenes from the movie. So, that given, I can't give it a great rating, but I can't leave it in the yellow with me coming back to it constantly every day. On the actual ... read more
Humanity is such a strange and beautiful phenomenon
It is sometimes easy to forget that music is more than a form of entertainment, it's an art form
Mortality is a scary thing, but it's also what makes humanity so beautiful. You're only here for a short time, so we try to live our lives to the fullest extent. Holley delivered an album that views mortality through the lens of Blackness in an immensely powerful way. In many ways this album is about so many Black concepts. Black solidarity, ... read more
Color me impressed!!! It's really nice to see some BROCKHAMPTON ex-members developing their sound in a completely different way than they were used in their time with the band. This project had all the pieces needed to be great and it sure delivered, though being a bit short for my taste. Ryan's voice is truly something beautiful and his songwriting, while not the most impressive, feels very raw and delivers a truly emotional experience. While I think sometimes he ends up sounding a bit more ... read more
I really wanted to like this, I really did. This is just not good and the worst project she has put out. I can respect her interest in branching out to neo-soul and honestly I was really interested when I figured out that was the direction of this album, but this is probably some of the weakest additions to the genre in awhile. Her vocals here are some of the weakest I've heard from her and the the production is so simple and boring that this just turns into a snooze fest. The best song on this ... read more
Time to stick my neck out for an up-and-coming artist. The way I rate this may be a bit unconventional since I want this to heavily be based on the merit of the producer who is the main focus of this album. I found this by way of TikTok recommendation and am happy to say it was with reason. This is some of the best production I've heard this year and that really is exemplified by the fact that some of these features are not great. Aviad brings a style of production that is very reminiscent of ... read more
While I may not have enjoyed this as much as many others will and have, this is a really impressive release from Kesha and honestly one of my most unexpected listens of the year. This is one of the most vulnerable pop records I've listened to in awhile and the depiction of difficult topics is very direct here. The production varies immensely throughout the album with some songs being almost entirely stripped of production accentuating the vulnerability of the songwriting, and others have rich ... read more
This coming out right at the start of the summer was a really good move on their part, this whole album has a super strong chill summer vibe to it that will go over really well with audiences. On the topic of how good it is though, I mean, it sure is a collab from these two. I've already been a fan of both before this even came out so I knew this was going to be a hit with me, but I was just kinda hoping it hit a llittle harder. The production is obviously on point throughout and Amine sounds ... read more
I have thought IDK was an extremely interesting artist to watch since his project Simple last year where he seemed to really be coming into the sound that he wanted to be in. His tendencies towards a jazzy groove style that has more in common with lo-fi and house than pop rap seemed to be taking shape and it was nice to hear something out of the ordinary for an artist I had only know for his top hit Shoot My Shot with Offset, which while good was just another pop rap charter. Since then IDK has ... read more
Now this, this is some good abstract hip-hop. The mellow production here allows for some genuinely heartfelt story-telling from Navy Blue and leads to a genuinely beautiful experience overall. The production is not just mellow either, it is notably pretty at many points and is just as great as Navy Blue's delivery at many points. This is not something I would consider a staple of the genre, but it's a damn good addition to it that I will be returning to in the future
I can't believe I listened to this in it's entirety. I would say I wasted about half of the time I had listening to it. This is just one of those albums where you take the good songs and forget the others exist and there are some good tracks in here. This album can be fun if you let it. It's just way too damn long. KNIGHT CRAWLER is genuinely a top notch trap banger that deserves as much respect as something like Sicko Mode and there are other enjoyable tracks on here like PSYCHO and MUSCLES. ... read more
Bro what happened, this wasn't even that bad. Ya'll got me thinking I'm crazy for thinking this was pretty alright. It wasn't as good as the DJ Premier EP but jeez. The mixing is a bit off and makes the rappers hard to hear throughout, but it does what it sets out to do, showcase the producer. The beats are good and while the verses are mostly forgettable, they bring enough energy to the beat to do it some justice. Not great, but damn, it's not that bad
This was probably the most commercially palatable outing from Gorillaz yet. While personally, I don't think mainstream appeal is a bad thing, it kinda resulted in this album just being a bit boring. It's not bad, just boring. It has some really mellow vibey feel to it and if you let it play in the background it is pretty enjoyable, but if you're engaged listening to it, it's sonic Nyquil for the most part. I don't mind chill stuff and I think I listened to this project in the best way possible ... read more
I honestly forgot this came out this year before I started rating stuff on here. In short, it's another Asian Glow collab that has more of the same shoegazey atmospheric production of their other projects, but the more screamo direction this one takes is just not for me as much as their other stuff. That's not to say this isn't enjoyable, it's just not as good as their other collabs in my opinion
SHE SERVED!!!
I was not mentally prepared for this when I heard it. This shit is so fucking based, like girl me too. Definitely the most chaotic listen so far this year and not for the faint of heart. This honestly feels like internet ADHD on steroids. Production goes hard though. Shit like this reminds me that being queer is so fun
I feel genuinely crazy on this site for thinking redveil is next up. He clearly knows his way around a good hook and is up to professional chops with his producing ability, but despite all this he gets so much flak. To me this, just like his project last year, is just another stepping stone towards him finding his sound. black enuff and giftbag are genuinely great and catchy songs that showcase the artist redveil is becoming and I personally believe that his next album is going to be something ... read more
There isn't really anything bad about this album, there just isn't really anything remarkable in terms of what the artist is capable of though. It's Black Thought by the books and some better than average jazz rap to be expected entirely. It's good just not all that surprising. I enjoyed it while listening, but I may forget about it pretty quickly. Black Thought has this way of making some truly great music that just manages to not stick with me for very long in the same way it did with his day ... read more
