Susanne Sundfør - blómi

This album is really immersive and provides an extremely atmospheric experience. It's that very immersiveness that, I think, gives it some of the most uncomfortable moments I've heard in music this year. The production here is insanely good, that honestly goes without saying. The ability to put you in that sonic chamber lets you feel every emotion the music is putting forward, positive or negative. There are some truly beautiful points in here too where the vocal harmonics lead to gorgeous ... read more

FIRST PERFECT SCORE OF 2023!!!

As an ex-saxophone player, I want the sax on this EP to make love to me so bad. It's very rare that I listen to something that immediately makes me take a look at the entire discography of the artist. Everything presented here is so expertly put together from the insanely atmospheric guitars to the perfectly placed vocals that just accentuate the instrumentals. I am in love with every song on this EP and this might end up being my favorite project of the year. It ... read more

billy woods & Kenny Segal - Maps

Woods truly is one of the most unique talents in the hip-hop scene today. Every time I hear him drop a bar it just sticks with me thinking, no one else could deliver that. I think that really sets him apart from the competition and makes every venture he goes on exciting. Honestly, I think this is his best project. It's just so damn consistent and what everyone is saying about this one being a grower is for sure gonna be the case. I will have basically half this album on rotation in the ... read more

Skrillex - Don't Get Too Close
44

This is..... not the worst thing I've ever heard. It is, however, far from the best. I was actually pretty excited for this project as well as Quest for Fire since I though the singles Way Back and Real Spring were nice mellow trap songs. Sadly that was not the case with most of this album. I get what he was going for here, but it just doesn't sound good half the time. There are some songs that sound okay here and Don't Go is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, but that doesn't save the album. ... read more

Skrillex - Quest For Fire

When this album came out I was genuinely impressed and had a number of the songs in here in rotation, and months later nothing has changed. This is easily his best project and showed so much creative growth and saw how much he has matured in curating an album experience as well. This is an amazing love letter to all of the musical ventures he's taken and honestly is one of the best electronic dance albums I've heard in awhile. There are so many songs here that I still bump today and will be ... read more

Jean Dawson - "XCAPE", PT. 1 JEAN DAWSON AS "PHOENIX"

New Jean Dawson is always a huge win, but damn delusional world champion is honestly one of his better songs. Excited for the next project he's working on. Boutta have these songs on repeat for the next week

100 gecs - 10,000 gecs
87

This is just pure fun and really a showcase of 100 gecs' musical ability in general. It's like a shitpost, but made by a professional. However, don't think there aren't genuinely good songs on here. Hollywood Baby and Doritos & Fritos are certified bangers and pretty much every song here is a fun time if you let it be. All I can say is it made a 100 gecs fan out of me and I think that's enough for me to consider it pretty impressive. Not a conventional album, sure, but it wouldn't be 100 ... read more

Waterparks - INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Jesus Christ this album was controversial, personally this is an unlistenable album for me. I cannot sit through even a single song here without needing to shut it off immediately. Luckily I was able to listen to this and form my own opinion before the Brad controversy with this album started, but honestly he's right and so is Legoshi. This album sounds terrible to me and I cannot listen to it because of that, but thank you Legoshi, you did help me to find some appreciation for this album. I'm ... read more

Logic - College Park

Why did there have to be a 2 minute skit at the end of every fucking song. I'm already losing aux for Logic coming on in the first place, he didn't have to get me banned forever. In all seriousness, I thought this was pretty good when it came out. I must admit, I am a reformed Logic fan from the Under Pressure days, but this felt better than most of the albums he's put out, though that's not saying much. I still get some enjoyment from Lightsabers and Self-Medication, but damn this album has ... read more

Liturgy - 93696

Sooooooo, I'm gonna start this off by saying, I don't think I fully get it. I don't understand black metal at all, but I think that this should almost be a testament to how amazing this album really is. This experience really sent me on a journey and really made me think and feel intensely. The instrumentation throughout is insanely impressive and I couldn't help, even as not a big fan of metal, being blown away by songs like Djennaration and the title track. This is a highly impressive album ... read more

Invent Animate - Heavener

I don't really listen to metalcore, but this was actually pretty good. They're not exactly reinventing the wheel anywhere here, but it had some really enjoyable melodies and when it goes hard, IT GOES FUCKING HARD! All this being said, I don't love it or anything, just a surprisingly enjoyable metalcore album and maybe an incentive to dive into this genre a bit more in the future.

Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy

This was pretty cool. I can't say I was very familiar with the artist before this release, but this was a nice introduction to them. I think this album does a good job at entertaining while it is on, but I just wish it was a bit more memorable. Critics are definitely overrating it, but that's okay. I had a good time while it was on, I just probably won't return to it anytime soon.

Kali Uchis - Red Moon In Venus

I can't believe I forgot to talk about this album. But, that's a lot of my thoughts regarding it, not many. This album is really pretty and yes, you feel sexy as fuck listening to it, but that's about it. Once it ended I have not thought about this album at all this year. It was just a very forgettable, though enjoyable, experience. I like a lot of songs here, but there aren't really any I love and Kali's vocals are gorgeous and angelic, but they don't do much to keep me intrigued for future ... read more

I'm suing Dababy for the time he just chopped out of my life, six minutes I can't ever get back, FUCK YOU!!!

Denzel Curry - Live at Electric Lady

Just one more reason that this man is my favorite artist today. He just doesn't miss. Anything this man touches is so fucking good! It is a bit easier to see the direction his next album is going to head in through this performance and I am sooooooo excited. This is just enough Zeltron to tide me over until his next album which I know will not disappoint. Watching this man's creative evolution has been a pleasure as a fan. While I do regret us not seeing his punk influences as much anymore, ... read more

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING LISTENING TO THIS ALBUM PLEASE DO!!!

This performance has not gotten enough press at all. This album is absolutely gorgeous from top to bottom with some truly angelic live composition for this performance. This was absolutely one of my favorite listens so far this year and deserves to be talked about as much as the other major live album releases so far this year. As far as the live albums this year go, I put this a little below After the Night and a bit over Live at ... read more

Endless Backlog of Reviews #3:

I have a very complicated relationship with this album. This was one of my first full albums that I listened to and I listened to it on the day it released. This was not something I did for any other artist when I was 15. Honestly, when I first listened to this album I loved it. I found myself listening to it constantly for the first 3 months it was out finding a new song to fall in love with each week. That all being said, I can't even listen to this stuff ... read more

Endless Backlog of Reviews #2:

This first attempt at an album was, I think, a step heading slowly in the right direction for X. "Jocelyn Flores" and "Fuck Love" are songs I can still enjoy today and there were some interesting ideas on songs like "Everybody Dies..." As a person that used to listen to this on repeat, I can't really defend this too much when I, as a past X superfan, am starting to really lose enjoyment with his music. This was the perfect music for ... read more
