Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown
93

I’m begging everyone gives this a proper listen and sit with it, it’s so worth it, every second of it.

This was a record I was very excited to hear, but I got completely sidetracked by Vince staples and bmth surprise dropping so my attention turned to them. I know this released the same day with Billie but I was so uncertain on where I lied with the billie record that it took me sometime to fully digest but by the time I did, bmth and Vince staples had dropped which lead to me ... read more

Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
84

50TH REVIEW!!! Thanks for all the support on my profile, I appreciate everyone and making this feel worthwhile. I’ve enjoyed writing reviews so much (regardless if some them are short reviews), and I can’t wait to keep going with these reviews, much love!!!

Anyways, on Billies third record, she takes a more straight forward route and focuses on the one vibe that sticks throughout. Her first record whilst being a fun listen, had a lot of different things going on. Exact same goes ... read more

Bring Me The Horizon - POST HUMAN: NeX GEn
75

EDIT: Album has grown on me a bit which is nice to see, for example I understand why I didn’t like DIg It at lfirst, but I must say it’s definitely grown me a lot. Just think the lyric ‘I hate my fucking guts rn’ just annoyed at me first because of how edgy it is but weirdly doesn’t bother me that much anymore, honestly becoming more of a high point than a low point. Still hate the intro and outro so fucking much though😭
EDIT: Wow this one really grows the ... read more

Vince Staples - Dark Times
83

On Vince’s last record under Def Jam, he’s sounding his most mature and self aware, whilst staying true to who he is as an artist. Very introspective writing in his wordplay that goes hand in hand with his instrumental choices and deliveries across the record. Great listen back to front for conscious/west coast hip hop fans and of course Vince Staple fans in general.

On a side note I’ve always had so much admiration for Vince’s music and outlook on things, I find it ... read more

St. Vincent - All Born Screaming
85

An album that starts brilliantly, slips in the middle but picks up at the end. Very fun listen for the most part and St. Vincent proves to be one of the most consistently good song writers out there right now

Childish Gambino - Atavista
60

I mean it’s okay but it’s nothing special tbh.

I could just end the review there if I wanted but I wanna yap cause why not. Basically when I first got into rap/hip-hop in 2016, Childish Gambino was one of, if not the first rapper I was into. I loved Crawl, Sweatpants, The worst guys, worldstar, the party, 3005 and Sober in particular and they were constantly on repeat. And a few months after I was getting into him, Awaken My Love dropped and I fell in love with the album. That love ... read more

Breathe/Rust - THERE IS HELL
70

Some solid, teeth-grinding hardcore Bristol punk. Worth giving a shot!

Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
95

Blud needs a strepsil after all that screaming😭

A record that myself and plenty of fans have been looking forward to for sometime and I know myself that I’ve had HUUUGE expectations for this. Now does this live up to those expectations? I'll be honest at first I wasn’t feeling too much on this but as time has gone, to answer the question I’d say it’s lived up to them expectations nearly perfectly somehow.

Firstly just to get the singles out of the way, ... read more

WILLOW - empathogen
84

Amazing record by WILLOW!! It’s obvious she’s had talent for awhile and I feel like a lot of people were waiting on that potential to be unlocked, and can safely say this is that first of hopefully many great records to come from WILLOW.

Fantastic production, vocal deliveries and instrumentations on all fronts on this record and I can’t wait to see WILLOW go beyond this and make even better records whether it’s in the genre or other genres she’s messed around ... read more

Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism
55

Kinda hurts to rate this as low it is because I really enjoy Dua Lipas music, but this record is incredibly lackluster and just leaves you hanging dry.

Some standout tracks are of course Houdini, Training Season, French Exit (my favourite off of the entire record), Illusion and Happy for you, but even then some of these tracks are from perfect.

I think the main problem with this record is its lack of diversity, with a lot of the tracks bleeding into together but not in a positive away. Even ... read more

QUEEF JERKY - absolute madness
35

There’s some fun moments on this record, but that does include a lot of annoying parts and as much as I hate to say this the annoying parts come from Dev herself.

I love her and I know this isn’t supposed to be taken seriously but man her chorus on WE ROBBED THE BANK just does my head in so much, but then her screaming “Scrape it off and lose the gunk” on ABSOLUTE MADNESS is so unbelievably hard so there’s that. There’s no shortage of great, playful, ... read more

Full of Hell - Coagulated Bliss
71

Very solid death/sludge/noise metal record or whatever you want to define it as, with some facemelting riffs, disgusting vocal deliveries and ferocious drumming front to back.

Feel like the latter end of the record does lose focus and certain tracks start to get lose amongst others, but still some great parts throughout those tracks. Full of character and interesting mixes of genres, which makes for an entertaining listen all the same!

Wisp - Pandora
65

I had no knowledge of Wisp or how she had her breakthrough but I should’ve known better than for it to be obviously TikTok, but I wouldn’t have known as I never use TikTok so I was blind to all of this hype until I read the other reviews.

Wisp has a nice sound that has something more to it than other shoegaze acts, but I can’t help but feel like I’m missing a lot from this EP. Obviously it’s all a working progress so I’m not too worried for Wisp. I recognize ... read more

Greyhaven - Stereo Grief
73

Very straightforward but sometimes complex head banging metalcore tracks all into one compact EP.

Some tracks remind me of The Dillinger escape plan, especially the EP they done with Mike Patton, some parts remind me of Black Peaks and some others remind me of Arcane Roots. Had a lot of fun listenting to this as it brought me back to those artists and similar artists as well.

There’s still some songwriting aspects that can be approved on a tiny bit and some of the song structures feel ... read more

I’ve been slacking big time with my reviews so I need to do catch up. The first of many “reviews” of records from this year I’d say😅

On some Tekken shit with this. Very fun, enjoyable 10 minutes of my life, which I imagine I’ll be going back to. Definitely recommend!

Kendrick Lamar - meet the grahams
100

Oh my fucking god that’s maybe the best diss song ever.

It doesn’t get more upfront and personal than that

Kendrick Lamar - euphoria
100

Genuinely so fucking funny, this made me audibly laugh multiple times which is not something that happens often for me with music, but man Kendrick torches Drake without even trying all that much. He’s clearly having fun with this beef and knows that Drake will never ever surpass him, as much as Drake likes to think he has.

Such hard lines throughout this too as expected, whether it’s the bar about Drake basically being a shit dad, the sexy redd line, battling ghosts or AI line and ... read more

Frank Ocean - Blonde
66

Never thought I would be rating blond this low or well at least compared to the vast majority of people’s outlook on this record but here we are.

I was in the right mood to re-listen to blond which isn’t exactly a good thing but regardless, I was actually really looking forward to hearing this album again for the first time in awhile just because it gradually went out of rotation but man this really has shrunken on me over these years apparently :/

I never liked Nikes, that was ... read more

Taylor Swift - THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT
30

Yeah if I’m being completely honest this was one of the most boring listens I’ve ever sat through for an album.

There isn’t a single song I enjoyed at all, not a single melody that stuck, not a single instrumental that stuck out to me, not a backstory that made me feel something. There was just nothing there for me and I don’t think it’s a case that I can’t enjoy it because I mightn’t have experienced certain themes that Taylor sings about because that ... read more

RiTchie - Triple Digits [112]
80

Ritchie’s debut album is a very fun little project who’s obviously best known for his work with Injury Reserve/By Storm.

There’s a great selection of singles on this thing that work so well together with the other tracks and gives them new meaning.

There’s not really any songs that I necessarily dislike either, it’s more that there’s maybe two songs or so that don’t stick with me as much compared to others but they’re still solid.

Definitely ... read more
