Back to front a truly great debut album.
There’s not much I can say that hasn’t been said before about this record, so I can only show my love and appreciation for it.
Incredibly excited for what’s to come in the future from the London group.
Wow.
Idles here have returned with their 5th record ‘TANGK’ which is a tremendously gorgeous album that deals with the most sensitive topic in ways that I’ve never heard before, Love.
I had no idea what to be expecting from this record judging by the singles, because I had fairly different levels of enjoyment for each single, as I loved ‘Dancer’ from the start and was obsessed with it and still am, Grace I originally thought was okay but nothing special and then ... read more
Now of course it’s known how terrible a lot of the things he’s said, and how insane it is that he’s still given all of this love and admiration but like I said this is all known so let’s just move on to the music side of things.
There’s not really much to be said about the music if I’m completely honest, it’s lacking so much “character” which I’m not even sure is the right word to be using but anyhow… it’s lacking in just ... read more
Genuinely have no idea how fans of the best female rapper itw right now aren’t enjoying this EP way more.
Very fun listen, I think these genres that Simz dips her toes in come off great and whilst of course a lot of the songs on here are quite short and aren’t fully fleshed out, what can you expect when this was made in 3 days.
Simz collaborates with a long time friend (James Jacob on production) which already makes for some great chemistry between the two and the two experiment ... read more
Not sure if it’s better than the first record now, but it holds up very well in comparison so there’s no point in putting them against each other, they’re both great in their own way.
Sometimes throughout the album it’s quite easy to get lost in it, but the more I think about it, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
EDIT: Turns out I REALLY like this album. When I was first listenting to the record, I still really enjoyed it don’t get me wrong but with time ... read more
Was expecting so much from this which was mostly to do with my love of ‘i am > i was’ as I think that was not only such a great project but a very important release for 21 because he didn’t have that solo project that solidified him as a potential great in the modern scene, and I presumed that he would only build on the success that ‘i am > i was’ had but unfortunately it didn’t live to expectations for me at all.
‘redrum’ is very clearly ... read more
After a promising release with ‘Ummon’, although it certainly wasn’t a perfect album, there was still great parts to the record and felt like there was unpacked potential from the Toulouse formed group, I was unfortunately left disappointed with this release.
The leading single which is also the title track ‘Ilion’ was a strange first single to me as there wasn’t really much to remember from the single at all and I was immediately worried that this would be a ... read more
On the 5th anniversary of this album and also just after finally seeing them live, I felt it was appropriate to give it a review. (Even though I’m ever so slightly late putting out this review)
Amo is maybe their most ambitious release to date for so many reasons and for the most part it comes off great and still manages to sound like a cohesive record despite all the different mix of genres, but of course it’s far from perfect.
The record starts off with an interlude that sets up ... read more
I was highly debating on actually giving a 100 so early in my reviewing stages, but there’s a clear reason why I chose this album and there was no point in denying it.
One of the best hip hop albums of all time, and is my personal favourite hip hop album of all time, maybe even my favourite album of all time full stop.
The gritty and hopeless feeling of despair on this album is so clear and you can’t help but take on the journey with Danny through his thoughts and feelings. ... read more
I was deciding on a first review for my profile and thought this was a perfect first review seeing it was one of my favourites of last year, and plus TMC just deserve so much more recognition. “Gigi’s Recovery” deals with themes of life, love, dependency on strong connections and isolation (which was expected seeing a lot of this record was written during COVID). These themes were a breath of fresh air compared to their first record “When I Have Fears” which dealt ... read more
