I won't say this is the BEST Raconteurs album, but it is most certainly my favorite.
This is one of Jay's all time best GUM albums. I was shocked, because I listened to the singles a couple times and they were alright, but in the context of the album, wow! Plus, some of the best songs are the deeper cuts. I think 'In Life' might be one of the best songs GUM has put out in a while. The guitar tone is very reminiscent of Lonerism Tame Impala and that pops up a few more times on the album.
Hats off, because this has shot towards the top of my favorite albums this ... read more
While Yes is a prog rock band, we all know the 80s caused many of these bands to shift toward a more radio friendly sound. It worked for some, others it didn't but I think Yes was pretty damn good at it. Step back from their run in the late 60's/early 70's, and you've got two pretty good 80s rock albums. It's neither better nor worse, it's just different. I can respect an artist that tries different things, even if it doesn't always land with me, which here on ... read more
I was going through some old playlists recently and came across a few songs from this album. It's always a fun feeling when you rediscover an album you used to love. Sometimes, it ages well, other times it doesn't.
Duality is the former. This is an extremely interesting bedroom pop album. Not to mention that this is Luna Li's debut, which is what makes this album all the more special. The instrumentation throughout the album is very sophisticated and experienced. While the album ... read more
I am just now returning to this album after only listening to it once. HUGE fan of their previous three albums, but this one never grabbed me when it dropped. Well, I was listening to a mix playlist and Wait Too Long came on. Got me interested so I queued up the album, and I'll be honest, this is not a uninteresting as I remember it. I love the use of horns in music and there are quite a few great ones, namely People That We Know. Would recommend giving this one another shot if you ... read more
Yield is a good middle point between where they were and where they were going. I also think this is a great place to start for new fans, because it has a little bit of everything. There's a wide variety of styles and sounds going on which can make for a bit of a disjointed album experience, but overall, this is a really solid rock album.
HIGHLIGHTS: Brain of J, Given To Fly, MFC, In Hiding
I actually really enjoy the experimentation on this album and there are a lot of great songs here. The styling is a bit all over the place, but after the last couple albums, this was a nice return to Bowie trying and experimenting with new sounds.
HIGHLIGHTS: Buddha of Suburbia, Slow Horizon, Dead Against It
Cool concept, but the original release of The Universe Smiles Upon You is one of my favorite albums of the last 10 years, and it just doesn't compare, imo.
Also, I will not stand for this Mr. White erasure.
Highlights: White Gloves ii // Zionsville ii
Much, much better than their previous album. This one is much more bouncy and in line with their classic sound.
HIGHLIGHTS: Sushi & Coca Cola, Stars Above, Seagulls, Change a Life
I'll preface with saying that The Midnight's run in the 2010s is one of the best of that era (Days of Thunder - Monsters). They started off the decade pretty strong with Horror Show, which quickly became one of my favorite releases of 2021. However, their previous album felt like they played it really safe with their sound and even seemed like they may be chasing chart success. Either way, it was the first Midnight album that didn't resonate with me.

One of my favorite ELO albums. My Dad had this in his collection (along with the rest of the discography) growing up and while I loved them all, the bright colors of the cover really drew me in. I love Lynn pushing the band in a fun synth pop direction, and I wish we had gotten a similar follow up,
HIGHLIGHTS: Heaven Only Knows, So Serious, Getting to the Point, Sorrow About To Fall
Direction came out when I was in high school and it was one of my favorite albums. I couldn't wait for the next one....and then we got 3 songs in 17 years. I kid, I kid. The good news is these guys are fucking back. It really feels like they picked up where the left off and then some. Kenny's voice has matured a lot and it took me a couple tracks to really get used it, but now I don't think twice about it. Honestly, it adds some grit to the album.

There are some tracks that really give off that Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino vibe (Arctic Monkeys), and I am here for it, namely It's Over. There are some really cool moments that reach a little into grunge territory as well (See: Awake). Throw in his love of late era Beatles influence and you wouldn't think this would all come together so seamlessly, but it really does make for a great "Deluxe Album" and I love the direction Djo's music is going.
Pretty solid album. Remember picking this up as a kid hoping it would sound like Tres Hombres and didn't. I was pretty disappointed, but upon returning to it as an adult, I actually love how gritty it is. Lots of killer riffs, too. They also really honed in on their country western side, which I love. Billy has got to be one of the GOATs. Guy can shred.
Actually think this is their best album is several cycles. It sounds a lot like if you combined Turn Blue, The Arcs, and a dash of Dan's last solo album, Waiting on a Song.
HIGHLIGHTS: No Rain No Flowers, Down to Nothing, Make You Mine, Man on a Mission
I've been waiting for Long Lost's follow up for what seems like forever, so this was heavily anticipated. Being said, it lives up to the Lord Huron trademark sound test.
There's a lot to love here, and as usual, these guys can create some of the most blissful atmospheres for an album in all of music. Sure, their sound doesn't change much, but it doesn't really need to go anywhere particularly different. They have a sound, and they do it well...so 10/10 there.

Not as good as the debut, but DAMN can Rob Thomas write a great pop rock song.
This pretty good! I'm a 90's Millennial, so I've heard Sex & Candy (and to a lesser extent Saint Joe on the School Bus) pretty much my whole life, but I never took the time to actually dive into this album and I gotta say, it's pretty good! Now it doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything, but the songs are quick to the point, catchy, and well written. Perfect album for a lazy weekend afternoon.
