Honestly I’d take any Hobo Johnson record over this. 1000 gecs was phenomenal, snake eyes was really good as well, but this is just trying so so hard to be quirky. There’s nothing special here and it’s severely lacking in experimentation. That’s what I loved about 1000 gecs, the fact that they were able to take all these cringe-worthy genres, blend them and create this vulgar, absurd project. It was exaggerated but it worked, a one of a kind hyperbolic record. This is ... read more
Offers a collage of sounds and occasional introspection that I would’ve never thought could be conveyed by music like this. It’s almost a lesson on how to not give a fuck about album structures and make a work that must be absorbed for what it is, a true uncommercial living being.
I HAD FORGOTTEN THIS WAS A MELLON COLLIE AND MACHINA SEQUEL, LITERALLY WHAT???!!!? WHERE!?
This is definitely better than act 1, like I would say that this is actually listenable material, the problem is that who would return to this. There’s so much excellent synth pop out there and if I want some pumpkins I’ll go back to their earlier (perfect btw) output. This is as bland as it gets, but the production was pretty nice, as were the instrumentals. The latter were actually pretty ... read more
Fucking PHENOMENAL. I’m telling you guys, I feel like this new album will go down as one of their best tbh. Xiu Xiu for life, some of the best artists ever.
Chill beats and all, I as well agree that Nick’s voice isn’t apt for this sound AT ALL. Nothing against the guy but if George sang on the album it would’ve been better.
I mean it’s okay but a bit boring on relisten. I’d prefer to listen to a random bad album from another artist cause at least it’s more fun.
Same thing i said for Blurryface. This is bad but it was fun to listen and also to point out the shitty lyricism. I still respect 21 pilots as people tho, I’ll probably try and check out some of their other stuff soon.
Listened to this and vessel while playing NBA cause i found my old cds. These albums absolutely suck except for some songs every once in a while but it was still such a fun listen. I’ll probably rate it with that in mind as well.
Features one of my favorite songs of all time even if in the end it’s just an above average album.
This score is purely based on nostalgia, basically just like almost all the other pop punk records i’ve rated.
Sounds like if they tried to sound like bring me the horizon. Incredibly mediocre and flawed
some of my favorite tracks they've made on this ( afterlife and Supersymmetry still blow my mind) but the rest is just okay.
