Porcupine Tree - The Incident
77

This album always feel off to me. Like something went out of sync.

The Beatles - Help!
75

The Beatles are more and more taking control of their music and the studio, wich is becoming a creative tool. They are now recording backing tracks before recording vocals, wich open the way for more complex textures. The Beatles are developping their individual identities, while the band's is changing. This is a group in transition, searching for its new sound without giving up the old one. ''HELP!'' is placed at a turning point for the Beatles, that is between the ... read more

The Beatles - Beatles for Sale
83

Recorded through their unstopped schedule of touring, the albums shows more than ever the fatigue of the band. The original songs are less catchy than usual and the album is filled with covers. The candid optimism that made their early career is traded for darked themes and more mature songs. The Beatles still display an impressive amount of countagious energy, many covers not requiring more than one take to record. The band is starting to experiment a bit in the studio, bringing textures ... read more

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night
85

One of the most emblematic album of the 60s, it is cheerful and filled with the light, youthful charm of the Beatles. Helped with the influences of Bob Dylan and The Byrds, The band drop any dead weight and go for a straight, intense pop rock sound that once again set a new standard for the genre. Ambitious and rare for the time, the record do not contain a single cover. McCartney wrote some of his most iconic songs for the album, wich pressured Lennon to write most of the tracklist. The result ... read more

The Beatles - Please Please Me
90

The record is a testament of their ''Hamburg'' era, where they had to display a lot of energy on stage through a versatility in styles, a musical ability translated to the tracklist. Mostly recorded in a day, the album is filled with spontaneity and energy unheard on a record at the time. The Beatles redefined here what an album could be, that is more than 1 or 2 singles jammed through poorly recorded filler tracks. The Beatles set a new standard for rock n roll, creating ... read more

David Bowie - Serious Moonlight (Live '83)
NR

The huge succes of LET'S DANCE made Bowie popular with a new generation of listeners a full decade after his initial international succes with LET'S DANCE. The ''greatest hits'' tour that ensued was pretty much the biggest and coolest party to be at in 1983. Like always Bowie and the band transforms the songs to better fit the newer style and some turns out pretty intense! Here are my favorites:
3. What in the World
8. Life on Mars?
10. Cat People
14. White ... read more

David Bowie - A Reality Tour
NR

This record, just like the ''Reality'' album, has a lot of energy and is a much-welcome breath of fresh air after the disaster of the ''hours...'' era recordings. There is indeed little gems, like ''Life on Mars?'' or the acoustic rendition of ''Loving the Alien''.

The youthfull energy and stamina Bowie displayed during that tour did not foreshadow the heart attack he suffered mid-show wich brough the tour to an ... read more

David Bowie - Reality

It took me some time but I find it actually not that bad of an album. It sounds a bit like ''hours...'' but with a lot more energy and better production. It is really fun and pretty out there, thanks to Visconti that brings this weird signature sound calling back to the ''Heroes'' era.

Alas, the album drags on a bit, as I don't feel the album really works as much as I appreciate the songs. It all feels a bit disconnected and lacks rythm, or anything ... read more

David Bowie - The Next Day

What is there to say. Bowie is certainly one of the most unique, influential and popular artist of all time and always held his own music to a quality standard whithout compromise. This penultimate record just shows how much dedication to his work and name he was still willing to put out. This is one of his more consistent record he ever put out and the production is almost flawless. You can indead hear pitch correction on his voice in the chorus of ''Where are we now''.

Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning
73

Wilson traded his innocence for confidence, and thus leaves a part of Porcupine Tree behind for good. Although it is still sad to its core, I just feel it's missing some soul, it feels a little more cold, a little more... ''prog''. And that's what this album feels like : Steven Wilson being prog. He is undoubtebly a very talent artist, but this feels more ''prog music'' than a ''prog album''. It's messy and disconnected, ... read more

Dream Theater - Images and Words
90

Very 90s album, yet nothing sounds like this. The songwriting is technical yet very melodic and retains a lot of emotions. Being part Metal, the performance is strong and hearfelt, very driven. It's really a gem, it's such fun to hear them play. A must hear for everyone in my opinion, even non-Metalheads!

Steven Wilson - Insurgentes
83

Many Porcupine Tree songs echoes on this LP, inspirations wich Wilson presents in a much more dark and somber tone. The album is a good as any decent Porcupine Tree record and is well worth a listen for even the lesser dedicated fans.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Flight b741
NR

I heard people say it's like KG returns to its roots, ditching experimental, microtonal, electronic, metal, prog music and back to doing good old garage rock like they did in their early years! Sadly there is one thing missing from that period and it is the psychedelia. That's what was so precious to me about the early albums. It's still good old garage/country rock, the album is fun and easy, real cool, but I probably won't come to it very often.

83

I really like the songs, it's tender and light, greak hooks, simply a gypsie good time.

Paul McCartney - Pipes of Peace
83

Say what you will this album is fun, light-hearted and has good tracks throughout, so I wonder what people have against this record.

Les Trois Accords - Gros mammouth album turbo
90

Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil
83

For me it's the colorfullness of this record, it's diversity that makes its genius. It's almost prog metal in its way, but also sound completely fresh and unique. Some parts can be cringe, especially vocals, but the songwriting is through the roof.

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
100

The strengh of this record lies in the quality of the songs throughout the condensed 38 minutes of rock classics and soulfull ballads. For me however, what makes this record a long-lasting masterpiece is the authenticity of the performance. Bowie was not famous yet at the time of recording and we can hear him vulnerable and young for the last time on a record. Coupled with the variety and quality of the tracklist giving us some of Bowie's finest songs, and also because of its 70s feel, I ... read more

Muse - Absolution
100

I think my life had just begun!

As OOS fascinated me, I always felt closer to Absolution, where Muse found its core, signature sound. The album is poignant, deeply dramatic with an axtra ochestral touch, theatrical, heavy, nostalgic, reflective, and ask core questions about the universe, the state of it and our place in it. The imminent doom and helplessness deeply resonated with teenage me and thus started my metalhead years. Yes, this album is what got me into metal.

The Beatles - Revolver
97

Recorded at a time where each Beatles had developped their own personalities yet no aversion for each others, Revolver is without a doubt in my ears the summum of their career as a band. In 1966 the Beatles ditched for good the ''Hard Day's Night'' pop-rock feel still present on both 1965 albums and were moving foward with the total ''revolvution'' of change of sound and style they were know for. At the same time, they decided to fullfull any ... read more
