As much as I love Odelay and Midnite Vultures, melancholy Beck just hits different
It's for a good cause, having the Last Dinner Party song be immediately after the BCNR one made me realize that the new BCNR lineup is basically a better version of The Last Dinner Party.
The thing about indie rock is that it's carried by the 1%, and most of the 99% try to emulate the 1% without adding much of their own thing. Most of it is pretty good, but there is too much great indie music for me to settle for "pretty good".
Thing is, these aren't some college kids who like Wednesday and Geese, these are one of the best singers of all time and a producer who's been working with her for years, who also happen to really like Wednesday and Geese, so ... read more
I loved Poppy's last album, but I don't know if it's because my taste's changed, I raised my standards, this album is just way worse than her previous one, or a combination of all three, but it's just not it.
Nothing here is really bad but nothing's really all that good, it's just passable.
I really don't like Jordan Fish's production. It's way too squeaky clean for metal, and it's especially noticable here when they try to go more ... read more
Small disclaimer: this is more of a yap session than a review, proceed with caution
10 years ago, when I was in 5th grade, my friend came up to me and told me David Bowie had passed away. He told me about Labyrinth and some of his songs, and got really into him for a while, but me being a 10 year old who only had a faint idea of who he was and also didn't really give a shit about anything that wasn't Lego or Pokemon, I didn't hear him out and kept on listening to Imagine Dragons ... read more
Being jewish doesn't stop me from loving this banger!
There is a straight line between the fall of the twin towers and this song
These songs paint such a clear picture of a cyberpunk landscape in a way that most songs that actively go out of their way to try to be cyberpunk don't even reach, it just sounds so natural.
The Life of a Showgirl just has none of Taylor's appeal. It isn't earthy, the songwriting is bad, the production is just generic pop production, and her vocals are just OK. This album is like buying celebrity products, the only reason to listen to it is because the Taylor Swift name is attached to it.
At the same time it's not THAT bad but Taylor might actually be the most detached from reality person alive

I can't believe I'm enjoying an Arctic Monkeys record. I feel like I'm 13 again
At a time like this, when generative AI is becoming more and more threatening to creative jobs, Benson Boone serves as a pillar of hope, that the human mind can still create some of the most uninspired and soulless music possible.
I guess you could say they not like us
...The writing is incredible. So full of rage yet so mature. This is one of Maruja's best and most beautiful songs, and I think it perfectly encapsulate the band.
I totally get why critics love this album so much, it's exactly the same kind of music as abcdefu and Jax where they try to be hip and cool with the kids while trying (and failing) to be empowering and progressive and they say fuck and sex a lot because they're cool, and that's exactly the kind of stuff critics like
Honestly this album is so Porcupine Tree, the vocals sound very similair to Steven Wilson's, the production style reminds me a lot of 2000s PT, specifically Deadwing and Wilson produced Opeth, and even the insturmentation sounds a bit like that era of PT.
BTW I'm not saying that as a bad thing, I love Porcupine Tree, and I don't really mean to imply that they ripped them off or whatever, because I don't think they did, if anything it sounds like they were inspired by them ... read more
