you'll never have more fun listening to a kendrick album, this thing is packed with funny and charismatic moments from start to finish. the production, as always, perfectly compliments what kendrick is talking about and he is talking about a lot here
i mean this is THE universal album. there's something in here for everyone to love, and every track sounds so crisp and punchy how could anyone not get enjoyment out of this experience
this was a strange experience for me. i love the songwriting, of course, how could you not? i love the melodies, of course, how could you not? but man, this project is underproduced. the instruments are stock-sounding, the drums clash terribly on almost every song, and the mix is nothing to write home about. i love the ideas and the concept behind the album but it is lacking in any form of strong execution for me.
i mean no it's not listenable in playlist form but the sound of this thing is just classic, crisp griselda
if the bat has an 808, westside gunn should stay away! also, do not let stove god cooks sing ever
disappointing posse cut for me, the beat is nothing special and most of those verses aren't great (benny cooked as always)
freddie gibbs will always rap like one of the greatest alive, always
but im personally not a fan of the beat selection on this one
i have always been a fan of his ideas, but they could be better executed by others at times.
this album took out my soul flipped it upside down put it back in took it back out flipped it back and put it back in
this beat is absolutely incredible and that intro is something else. the drop just does not pay off how it should vocally
the stuff i loved about this album as a kid doesn't speak to me as much anymore (mainly the vocals), but i still really love the energy and production through the project

But it still sucks because he doesn't speak "clever" or anything. Instead, he pulls an old stock trick by shamelessly copying the music of other artists. Most "experimental" rappers tend to copy the style of his or her idol, and make little or no attempt to develop their own sound.
Which is why we only consider Kendrick Lamar to be a genius. Why think less of him because he doesn't have the "X" factor? Why label"
