LCD Soundsystem - Bye Bye Bayou
73

Eh. A bit of a weak track from them.

Franz Ferdinand - Build It Up / Hooked Live
72

Some decent versions of these tracks not anything outstanding but fine

Interpol - Interpol
73

This is certainly a step down from their previous albums but it’s not that bad. I guess the shift from major label back to independent hit them harder than they expected.

There’s some amazing songs on here like Lights and Barricade. Those 2 are fantastic! But there’s also some really average and nothing ones like Always Malaise. A mixed bag for sure but not awful.

Favourite tracks: Success, Lights, Barricade
Least favourite: Always Malaise

Weezer - Pinkerton
100

Realised I hadn’t reviewed my favourite album ever so here you go. Probably my most listened to album as well.

Literal perfection. Rivers style of writing on this is fantastically vulnerable, the instrumentals are the best the band ever did. Perfection in 35 minutes.

Favourite tracks: All

LCD Soundsystem - new body rhumba (from the film White Noise)
92

Very classic sounding. Could easily be on Self Titled

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
99

This is LCD Soundsystem at their most creative and fun. If this was their last album, as it was billed at the time, I wouldn't be angry. Everything the band did before this was leading to their magnum opus. This has some of their best tracks ever and is just consistantly amazing.

Easily a one of a kind album!

Favourite Tracks: Dance Yrself Clean, I can Change, Home
Least favourite: Somebody's Calling Me

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
86

Was expecting a whole album like Zero and Heads Will Roll, but honestly, this is better. Some really good new rave mixed some decent slow tracks. The more danceable tracks are fantastic and some of the best in the genre!

Favourite tracks: Zero, Heads Will Roll, Hysteric
Least favourite: Runaway

Prince and The Revolution - Purple Rain
100

Utterly majestic.

It’s Purple Rain. You know the drill. Better than the film, Prince’s magnum opus, one of the best soundtracks of all time, so on and so on. But you really can’t understate how amazing this is! One of the defining albums of the 80’s and general music as a whole! Definitely deserves it!

Favourite tracks: Let’s Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain

Pain - Jabberjaw
70

Kinda interesting but also very odd at times. Some of these lyrics are pretty head scratching and bizzare.

Favourite tracks: Jabberjaw Running Under Water, Full Speed Ahead
Least Favourite: Chris Gets Up on It!

Queens of the Stone Age - Alive In The Catacombs
90

This might actually be one of the best live albums of all time! Everything sounds so majestic and lush. The track list is a bit weird but they make it work extremely well! Hope this becomes one of the few live albums to get a must listen tag.

Favourite tracks: Kalopsia, I Never Came
Least favourite: Suture Up Your Future

Jamie Paige - Radiant Revival
90

Felt like I should check this out since I’m subbed to the MV’s animator on YouTube. This was pretty damn great!

83

Way better than I expected! Kinda reminds me of Franz Ferdinand’s debut at times. Makes sense since they’re both Scottish and started out at around the same time. Also sounds like music you’d see in a movie playing in a pub if you know what I mean.

Favourite tracks: Henrietta, Chelsea Dagger, Creeping up the Backstairs
Least favourite: Cuntry Boys and City Girls

The Wombats - A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation
81

I really enjoyed this album! A very fun and British indie pop rock album. The references are everywhere and pretty obvious but I had a grin when they said them. There’s also an almost teen like writing but not in the overly edgy way.

Favourite tracks: Kill the Director, School Uniform, Let’s Dance to Joy Division
Least favourite: Little Miss Pipedream

David Byrne - Everybody Laughs
83

Grandad's back and cooking up some good shit

The Libertines - Up the Bracket
71

I get this was one of the first of the UK indie/garage rock revival, but this album has been outclassed by many future artists like Arctic Monkeys. It’s good but I feel like I’ve heard this sound from loads of different artists who do it better.

Favourite tracks: Time for Heroes, Up the Bracket, I Get Along
Least favourite: Radio America

Green Day - Father of All…
27

200 review special! Let’s go!

This was awful. I feel like I’ve heard every single song before, except better. The songs are generic as hell. It’s like stale bread, where it has no flavour but somehow leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth.

You can’t tell me this was made out of love or passion. I have a theory that this was a contractual obligation, where they had to release a set number of albums in a specific period of time, so hastily recorded some tracks that they ... read more

Ozma - Rock and Roll Part Three
90

The missing link between Weezer’s Pinkerton and Green album.

For an album with (I assume) a small budget, this is incredible! This is basically a lost Weezer album that some other band took and did really well. It replicates it perfectly! A must hear for Weezer fans!

Favourite tracks: Domino Effect, Battlescars, Last Dance
Least favourite: Natalie Portman

The Rentals - Return of the Rentals
75

It's alright. The synths remind me of some of the Pinkerton demos from around the same time. No surprise. The bass and drumming is good but that's to be expected. Not bad.

Favourite tracks: The love I'm Searching For, Waiting, Friends of P.
Least favourite: Naive

Garbage - Let All That We Imagine Be The Light
82

I need to get into garbage. This was really good! The dark vibe is really interesting and gives a kinda cool feel to the whole album. Pretty damn enjoyable!

Favourite tracks: There’s No Future In Optimism, Chinese Fire Horse, Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty
Least favourite: R U Happy Now

Beck - Odelay
92

Note: I listened to the international version which has the bonus track “Diskobox”

This is as experimental as hell and I’m all here for it!

The contrast between tracks is super interesting and makes each really stand out. Love the variety of samples used and genres represented. Everything sorta comes together really well in a bizarro way!

Favourite tracks: Devils Haircut, Where It’s At, Diskobox
Least favourite: Derelict
