Note: For some reason Defcon isn’t on YouTube music so I didn’t listen to it.
This is just David Byrne being David Byrne. And he’s good as ever! Really nice instrumentals and David’s voice is still as strong (though he always sounded like an old man).
Favourite tracks: Everybody Laughs, When We Are Singing, What Is The Reason For It?
Least favourite: Moisturizing Thing
Note: I listened to the UK version which has a reprisal version of ‘Luca’ as a bonus track. It actually works as a pretty good closure!
Jesus this was way more emo than I would have thought.
So my only exposure to Brand New was in Burnout Paradise and the song ‘The Archers Bows Have Broken’ so I was expecting the whole album to sound like that. What I got was better than I expected!
The strikingly strong vocals and amazing instrumentals really take it to the next ... read more
Wow Abbey Road is perfect who would have guessed.
Favourite tracks: Come Together, Octopus’s Garden, Here Comes The Sun, Abbey Road Medley / The Long One
David Bowie puts the glam in glam rock. Great album with genuinely good instrumentals and vocals! One of Bowie’s best.
Favourite tracks: Watch That Man, Cracked Actor, Time
Least favourite: Let’s Spend the Night Together
It’s 70’s Pink Floyd, what did you expect?
It’s a classic for a reason. This feels like them getting into the groove and starting to make incredible stuff!
Favourite tracks: One Of These Days, Fearless, Echos
Least favourite: Seamus
Make Believe but with the occasional swear
I honestly didn’t hate this! There’s some alright stuff and more decent to good songs then downright bad ones. Sure it’s kinda generic in places, but it’s fun.
Favourite tracks: High As a Kite, I’m Just Being Honest, Byzantine
Least favourite: The Prince Who Wanted Everything
I prefer how the original version was released (DIY track list is still a kinda cool idea) but this is still amazing and my Album of the Year so far. Also Parachute is really good!
Also there might still be two more songs on physical copies if her post about the track list is anything to go by
Original review (the stuff that still applies that is):
Surprisingly good and my current contender for AOTY (not like I listen to that much new music anyways). Some amazing Paramore-esque tracks and ... read more
So this isn’t actually a new track. It’s a cover they did for Tony Hawks American Wasteland back in 2005. Not sure why they choose it to be the lead single for the 20th anniversary since I believe it was already on steaming but whatever
One of the weaker tracks from that games original soundtrack but still a decent fob song
Honestly, not that bad. Sure that's probably because the originals are better but a decent handfull of these are solid covers. Not their best but certainly not awfull.
Favourite tracks: Everybody Want's to Rule the World, Happy Together, No Scrubs
Least favourite: Billie Jean
I love how they decided to experiment on this, like introducing more electronic elements. Really expands their sound in a great way!
A couple of the songs really remind me of the Postal Service.
Favourite tracks: White Sky, Cousins, Giving Up the Gun
Least favourite: California English
This has really great stuff on it and sounds super good!
But I feel like it was a bit too influential. Like, there’s so many bands that try and recapture what made this album so good, that I can’t help but feel that it rubs off on this.
Also I prefer Franz Ferdinand sorry.
Favourite tracks: The View from the Afternoon, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, A Certain Romance
Least favourite: Riot Van
A fun, lighthearted little pop-punk album. Rough around the edges but still extremely good and deserving of being the album that brought back the genre back into the limelight!
Favourite songs: Tell That Mick, Grand Theft Autumn/ Where Is Your Boy, Sending Postcards
Least favourite: Grenade Jumper
Note: I listened to the UK version which has the bonus tracks “Like A Drug” and “Precious and Grace”
This is a really good album that is unfortunately a follow up to a masterpiece. It has some great tracks but few live up to SFTD. A solid album but not an essential one.
Favourite tracks: Everybody Knows You Are Insane, Little Sister, Long Slow Goodbye
Least favourite: Skin On Skin
A nice little album from the 2000’s. Not much more to be said.
Favourite tracks: Caring Is Creepy, Know You Onion!, New Slang
Least favourite: Your Algebra
This album sounds so fun and lively! It does a superb job at replicating the 60’s/70’s Psychedelic sound and also old Hanna-Barbera cartoons of that era. So congratulations MGMT, this is great.
Favourite tracks: It’s Working, Siberian Breaks, Brian Eno
Least favourite: Lady Dada’s Nightmare
¡Tres días verdes! Dia Dos
Dos is interesting to me. It barely sounds like Green Day, has some of their worst tracks with Fuck Time and Nightlife, but also sounds pretty good and some great tracks! This a very mixed bag and more interesting than ¡Uno! so I’m giving a slightly better score.
Favourite tracks: Stop When the Red Lights Flash, Lazy Bones, Stray Heart
Least favourite: Fuck Time
¡Tres Dias Verdes! Dia Uno
Gonna try and listen to this trilogy over the course of the next 3 days. Might happen, might not. Depends if I have time.
¡Uno! Is straight power pop. It’s a bit bland and basic but a couple of songs are pretty good. Not their best showing but still a decent listen.
Favourite tracks: Nuclear Family, Stay The Night, Fell For You
Least favourite: Troublemaker
