toby fox is the goat ong
easily my favorite videogame ost of all time, this project essentially formed my childhood and has been such an important part of my life since it released over ten years ago. I prolly have a fair bit of nostalgia bias in my rating for this soundtrack but I don’t care, honestly the only reason why I didn’t give this a 100 is because of the weird short ambient tracks and some slightly redundant moments.
highlights (a lot): home, heartache, bonetrousle, ... read more
is it an insane statement to say that this is the best rage album of all time
revengeseekerz is obviously so much more than just a rage album though, with Jane pulling from more genres and styles than ever before to make something that is generally undefinable and extremely original in its sound.
I should mention that I haven’t previously been a huge fan of the louder moments on Jane’s prior projects, and I typically much prefer her softer, more emotional songs. that being said, ... read more
while being a bit generic, this album’s consistently beautiful, textured production makes up for most of its cliched moments.
due to this project’s classic jazz/bossa nova-infused aesthetic, I feel like laufey is able to get away with a lot of lyrical cliches here, for better or worse. normally I’d get pretty tired of the repetitive, rather basic themes of love as they’re explored in this album, but for some reason it kinda works perfectly with the overall sound, as ... read more
quadeca dropping an eight minute, three-act theatrical epic of a single is honestly not as surprising as it probably should be
this might just be quad’s best song, a title that I didn’t personally think could ever realistically be taken from born yesterday. not only is this song complete instrumental heaven, but it also features the most devastating, raw, and powerful vocal performance I’ve ever heard from quadeca. I’m gonna keep this review brief because I wanna save a ... read more
no way she casually just dropped song of the year
I had high hopes going into this single given how much Preacher’s Daughter clicked with me, and was made even more excited upon seeing that this new track was 8 minutes long. Despite these high expectations, nothing could’ve prepared me for how good this song is. This is 8 minutes of some of the most beautiful, melancholic, and lush instrumentation I’ve heard all year, topped with the familiarly haunting yet comforting sounds ... read more
one of sufjan’s most concise, beautiful, and devastating albums to date.
this essentially does everything that I wish carrie & lowell did for me, which, while being an overall great project with several of sufjan’s best songs on it, kinda staggered in the final leg and overall could’ve been a bit briefer (imo). this album, coming in at just 10 songs, has an incredibly beautiful progression to it that wouldn’t have worked nearly as well if it were much longer. this ... read more
he just keeps getting better, how does he do it
this song feels so natural, while simultaneously being one of quadeca’s most instrumentally-layered and complex songs to date from a production standpoint. he’s reached a point where he no longer has to prove his production chops with huge, climactic drops or long, drawn-out songs. he’s still making huge strides in his creativity and skill in regards to basically all aspects of his music, from instrumentation to vocals to song ... read more
every one of these new singles has just been better than the last, wouldn’t be surprised at all if this upcoming album is my personal favorite project from BCNR since I personally much prefer the vocals I’ve heard on these singles than I did Isaac’s vocals (which is prolly an unpopular opinion)
it’s always a shame to see artists compromise their work just to get their music out to fans quicker, smh 💔
it’s clear when listening to this new playboy cardi album that he definitely needed at least another year to cook on this, every song feels so rushed and I’m pretty positive that his fans are to blame. so many of his listeners have been wondering “when is music”, but none of them ever stopped to ask “how is music” 😢. the rushed state of ... read more
fire song, loved his flows and the sample flip. unfortunately I had to take ten points off because he forgot to leave his cursor on the cover image
absolute CINEMA‼️
I’ve never really actively listened to the weeknd’s music prior to this album, but if his other albums are this good, I’ll definitely have to do a deep dive into his discography because this was so fire.
against all odds, this album somehow does not feel too overly bloated despite its hefty runtime; there are definitely some songs in the middle of the tracklist that could’ve either been shortened or removed completely, but for the most part this ... read more
pretty fire hyperpop album that’s only occasionally ruined by unnecessarily cringy lyrics and random sound effects
brakence’s voice is amazing, I love how unique and distinct it is and the way he mixes and adds effects to his vocals really heightens their impact. the production is another high point for this album, it’s incredibly dynamic even by hyperpop standards and the beats and automation effects work very nicely with the vocals.
my main complaints with this album seem ... read more
this is such a beautiful and underrated classic brazilian album, I’ve been listening to this nonstop since I first heard it a few weeks ago and I don’t see myself ever getting sick of it
there’s something so uplifting and calming about old samba/bossa nova music, and this album perfectly embodies the vibe that has become synonymous with the genre. having a balanced mix of up-tempo samba tracks as well as more somber, emotional guitar-led tracks, this album excels at ... read more
this is one of those songs where I keep waiting for the nostalgia to wear off and to realize that it’s not as good as I thought it was, except for the fact that that has not happened yet
yeah this is still an emotional banger with genuinely really good writing and production, that chorus also still hits hard despite being memed to death lol
all of bruno’s big collab singles from the past year have gotten exponentially worse from die with a smile onwards, this still isn’t the worst song in the world but bruno’s hook actually considerably weighs the song down. sexyy’s rapping on this is actually not bad and the production’s clean too
very cool and experimental art pop
the first and last few songs on this album are definitely stronger than the songs in the middle of the tracklist, and while some songs don’t really work for me, the highlights are some of my favorite songs of the year so far easily.
also the north west feature kinda went hard I can’t lie
highlights: eusexua, girl feels good, drums of death
FAVORITE: striptease
I used to be a big somethingelseyt fan, so I listened to this song when it first came out back in 2019.
I remember thinking that the lyrics were cringy back then, and at the time I was bumping bitch lasagna and it’s everyday bro unironically so that should put into perspective just how bad this song’s lyrics are 😭
I was gonna say I love ethel cain, but after being haunted by the proclamations of “housofpsychoticwomn”, I think a better word choice might be needed
I don’t love anything about this project. that being said, that doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s an amazing, horrifying experience that overall proves to be a worthy successor to preacher’s daughter.
I knew I was in for an experience when the first track opened to a lofi, terrifying rendition of a ... read more
