this song, especially when paired with the equally amazing hand-animated music video, has such a unique and impressive balance of beauty and grotesque horror that I’ve rarely seen executed this well.
ikoti hana’s vocals are incredible, and toby fox’s production, being the main reason I gave this a listen in the first place, did not disappoint. every detail is so elaborate and purposeful, this is really one of the most lush and sonically detailed songs he’s ever composed
finally got around to listening to this album in full, and it mostly lives up to the insane hype
while I’m typically not a huge fan of synthpop as a genre, I can’t deny just how immense, cohesive, and polished this album is from front to back. every song, including the shorter interludes, fits perfectly into the greater picture of this project, and the production and vocals across all the tracks are insanely impressive and dynamic.
overall, while this album isn’t in a genre ... read more
this is my first introduction to bossa nova and it definitely didn’t disappoint, this is such a beautiful and relaxing album
the songs here can get a bit repetitive and some of them don’t really stand out, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing since the formula each track sticks to is perfection. soft bossa nova percussion, emotional soft vocals from Gilberto, and incredible saxophone soloing from Getz. the occasional addition featured vocalists are a really nice touch as ... read more
easily one of the best conceptual story albums I’ve heard in the past few years
I’ve been meaning to check this album out for a bit now, and it definitely did not disappoint. this is such an incredibly vivid portrayal of the tragic life of the titular character; the storytelling and pace of this project are extremely well done.
not every track is a standout, but essentially every song here is relevant to the progressing story and developments in the plot that occur. there’s a ... read more
this album’s pretty crazy ngl
prior to listening to this, I had essentially no experience with Jane remover’s music, but after hearing this, I can see why I’ve heard her name come up a lot. this is one of the most unique and completely out there albums I’ve heard recently, I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever heard a fusion of styles that sounds like this which is really cool.
some songs are a bit too disjointed for my personal taste and others drag on a bit in ... read more
this is one of the best produced rap albums of the decade so far, would be so much better if travis’s bars had the same level of creativity as his production.
it’s clear that travis has essentially nothing to talk about on this entire project, and while his flows and rapping performances are good throughout, it just gets tiring listening to him talk about the same things in pretty much every song.
that being said, tuning out his lyrics and exclusively listening to the sound of this ... read more
I don’t even watch jschlatt but this is genuinely a great christmas album lol
not much I can review here, he sounds really good on every song and he consistently picked the right songs to fit his voice. will unironically be playing this a lot over the next couple of weeks, it’s a nice compilation of some of my favorite classic holiday songs with nice-sounding production and good vocals from schlatt 🔥
favorites: white christmas, the christmas song, it’s the most wonderful ... read more
easily kendrick’s darkest and most hopeless album. it’s obvious that he wasn’t in a great place working on this project, and while the concept of the album being kind of like a loop works thematically, the project as a whole lacks the dynamics his other works have.
this album has a very consistent sound and theme throughout, with themes of religious juxtaposition and political frustration being rapped over the hardest hitting beats of kendrick’s catalogue. my issues ... read more
while this doesn’t have the completeness or overall package that most of kendrick’s other albums have, this is a really consistent, fun album full of great, high-energy rapping performances and amazing production.
I’m def gonna sit with this a bit and then return to this review, but my overall takeaway is that it’s clear kendrick didn’t make this with the intention to create a sprawling, cinematic masterpiece, and that’s completely alright with me

“I MIGHT’VE DONE SOME THINGS I NEVER DID” 🔥🔥🔥
When I listened to LYFESTYLE as my first Yeat album a few weeks ago, I was generally impressed by what I heard and I overall really enjoyed the album.
That being said, 2093 is without a doubt my new favorite project by Yeat.
Taking on an ambitious, massive concept, Yeat unfolds the perspective of an evil, alien overlord as a representation of his drug addiction, creating a genuinely compelling concept album with some ... read more
alright this isn’t TOO bad ngl
while the quality of this project is certainly mixed, it’s obvious that a lot of passion went into this, a lot of the random stories told on the songs here are kinda cute
that being said, owl city’s songwriting of said stories ranges from corny and lackluster to extremely painful and unbearable, with the latter unfortunately being present the majority of the time lol
the opening track is easily one of the worst offenders of this on the album; ... read more
as a certified quadeca glazer, I must admit that this album makes me cringe so much that I audibly go “FÜÇĶ”
to be honest tho, this is nowhere near as bad as i was fearing it was gonna be, but it’s still far from being good. there are definitely some indications of quad’s potential hidden in this tracklist, but they’re pretty few and far between and the vast majority of this album is generic, cringy YouTube rap that ranges from tolerable to entirely ... read more
I love phil elverum‼️‼️
this album is easily the most sprawling project I’ve listened to by phil, not just in its huge tracklist and runtime but also in the amount of different sounds, themes, and genres that are explored in the album’s 26 songs.
somehow, phil keeps this project engaging throughout all 26 tracks, and while some are shorter and less memorable than others, there isn’t a bad song here and the album never feels redundant or stale.
sonically, most of the ... read more
coming from someone who actually really enjoyed a few songs off pink tape, this is prolly the worst album I’ve forced myself to sit through this year.
beats range from generic/bland to decent, and the beats are what carry this album because lil uzi vert sure does not add much of anything vocally
the lyrics are almost exclusively terrible when you can even make out what uzi’s saying, uzi is clearly not in any sort of headspace to be making music because they brought nothing to the ... read more
took a few listens, but I get it now
75 -> 85 -> 90 -> 95
everything about this album is so beautifully delicate, only something as sonically unpolished and messy as this could have so much raw, pure emotion and heart in it.
not only are the songs on this all extremely consistent, but the storytelling in the lyrics and sounds used are executed to perfection. the way that one sonic motif is repeated so many times throughout the album, slowly getting more and more pronounced as the ... read more
what a classic, probably my favorite cover I’ve ever heard of any song
this MIGHT be tied for my favorite tyler album
prolly his most intimate and personal album yet, topped with consistently amazing and unique production and rapping.
while none of the features blew me away, they didn’t take away from the themes and overall experience of the songs, so I didn’t have a problem with any of them.
I’ll have to give this a few more listens to see if it grows on or off me but every song was good to amazing on first listen and it had some awesome ... read more
as someone who grew up on thefatrat’s music, a few songs on this project actually do somewhat live up to his classic tracks like unity and monody, but generally this LP shows an utter lack of artistic progression.
even the best tracks here, like hiding in the blue or warbringer, have notable similarities to previous thefatrat songs, and most songs feel more like stylistic regressions
favorites: hiding in the blue, warbringer, violet sky
