My Way Out should have been 2 separate tracks, the first 5 minutes sound like a leftover from their debut EP. The rest of the album delivers some great noise-rock. This is the Sprain I love.
It starts with a Bore, True Norwegian Black Metal does nothing for me. Things pick up immediately with Anything though, a much more interesting sound though the last 2 minutes do drag a little. This is not how I ever would have imagined Sprain began. Once again I am bored with No One's Home, a very monotone, dawdling song. Deliver Us gives us possible the best song on the album, am emo-y noise-y affair, a little reminiscent of early Radiohead, ending with a lovely soundscape. Snowing, the ... read more
Dynamic, wonderful vocal delivery and huge build ups, the album lulls a little in the middle (Touched By Comfort & Fuck The Police) but otherwise delivers everything I want from a Pile album. Solid as fuck.
Overall a good album, underrated even. Some uninteresting tracks are on here but they are made up for quite well by the highlights: The Shining, Hard Life To Love, Lost Forever and (expecially) Eternal Idol. If more of the tracks were in the style of Eternal Idol this could've been an incredible album.
This album does sound very 80s but I don't mind that, it isn't in an obnoxious way. If you're looking for some decent post-Ozzy Sabbath, give this album a go.
One of the most refreshing metalcore acts drops some of their best material. One of the best metal EPs of the last few years.
For such a great album I never expected the band to be so unknown. They have their own post-rock/hard-rock sound that is huge, not a single song on this album disappoints. I hope more people can discover them.
Dark, noisy, experimental and years ahead of their time. This album is a trip, I love it.
Deathgrind at its finest. Cattle Decapitation made a real masterpiece here, every song is memorable, disgustingly heavy and gatling gun fast.
Metallica's best album. Only let down by the production, though I have listened to this album so many times that it has just become part of the vibe to me. Immaculate songwriting, it is a crying shame that it was all downhill from here.
A great set of songs by Thurston, a mix of straight-to-the-point rock reminiscent of later Sonic Youth and longer, more experimental soundscapes.
This could pass as a Sonic Youth album, especially with tracks like Hashish, Cantaloupe and They Believe In Love (if the electronic elements were removed). This album has some of my favourite music from Thurston though there are also some less engaging moments, like in the first half of Locomotive and The Dreamers Work. Venus was a great choice to ... read more
Despite the low audio quality this shows how great of a show Faith No More can put on. I only wish it was longer
A great debut by a greater band. Mark Knopfler's guitar work is astounding.
A decent debut but nowhere near the heights reached by their later albums. Still an enjoyable listen, but even the band themselves knew this didn't fully capture what they were trying to achieve. It's an interesting piece of history regardless.
The Good And The Bad is the highlight of this mini-LP.
