Thank you charli for restoring my faith in your rock music arc somewhat. This is MUCH better than Rock Music.
HOWEVER, I will say it doesn't really feel new at all. This sounds almost exactly like every other bedroom rock song I've heard. Anyway, still not a bad song, hoping the best for the rest of the album.
I think we have reached the point where peggy is kind of losing his flair.
It's very rough, very crazy, very in-your-face production like all JPEGMAFIA albums are, but something about it just doesn't feel "Experimental" Like the title claims. Yeah, the beats are still very well made and intricate but they don't really seem to be doing much for the songs they're in—they're just there. For the title the beats are so typical to his older music that it ... read more
this song is so goofy I'm sorry it just doesn't work.
The hook is amazing though so It is above a 50 for me just for that. We're making RO-O-O-O-O-O... lowkey goes hard
This EP gives me promise that North West has the potential to be the next Willow Smith—kinda silly start but she clearly has the abilities and backing to do great things.
This album seems very obviously inspired by Rage, Hyperpop, and metal fusion, and I don't know what to think. Rage is a very chaotic genre that can get messy quickly if you don't know what you're doing
The songs are kinda messy structurally. They're all less than 2 minutes long and thus feel really ... read more
It's fun while it's on. There's a lot of really good cuts on here, and I might put this in my gym playlist as they are just hype songs
However, the songs are kind of whatever at times. These songs rarely tread new ground—not a bad thing obviously, just not the most incredible thing ever. I also thought some of the lyrics were a bit boring, cliche, or just vague for the sake of it. While they grew on me with more listens they still feel kinda weak even if the delivery and ... read more
Ok, to preface, I already think the strokes are a pretty room temperature band. However, this song is so hilariously awful it's kind of insane.
A consistent theme with most strokes songs I've heard is that the instrumentals themselves are on point, but the mixing on the singing completely ruins it. That's why I liked their last album; they seemed to actually know how to put the singing loud enough in the mix to actually register what he's singing about—unlike projects ... read more
Truly mesmerizing piece of music. Alternative genres like this which bend the conventions of the construction of music itself are so fascinating to me and seeing people pull it off is so fascinating every time. That's kind of why I love harsh Noise so much; it completely throws out the idea of melody and even rhythm, where only texture remains.
With In C, it's very similar. While it still preserves the idea of notes and rhythm, we see that this piece loses its sense of linearity. In ... read more
it's definitely much better than the vast majority of music he released during his... I'm not going to sugarcoat it, his complete descent into n*zi rhetoric... but let's be honest that's an incredibly low bar to reach. I will say though that there's some actually great tracks without any contemplable rhetoric on this album which is a first for him in a while. Most of the first 2/3 of this album is pretty solid.
However, there's still the controversy of AI usage on ... read more
I listened to this shortly after it came out and it didn't really impress me. In fact it left so little impression on me I didn't bother to rate it until I saw this on #6 critic rated albums this year so far. Like actually why though? It just sounds like every other alt metal band I've heard and it doesn't really bring much to the table. The songs are just kind of average, idk why critics are raving over this thing
I don't even dislike it that much—if I heard it ... read more
It's kind of fun but it's not very interesting. It sounds nice but it's pretty generic considering his influences
I keep forgetting to rate albums help meee. meant to rate this when it came out
I will say it's really fun while it's on but it gets repetitive and drags a bit. I will have to listen to this again at some point though
Edit: 94 -> 82, see notes on bottom
Album of the year in february nfw???
also: this is like a week after I first heard it. This was a movie soundtrack? smh not rly necessary tbh
I consider myself a light fan of Charli XCX. I liked brat (it wasn't my favorite thing ever but something I found myself coming back to alot) and I listened to Crash around the same time. I was not exactly expecting to be wowed by this album but damn this stuff goes OFF.
I think it helps that I'm a ... read more
Good for what it is. Long drone post-rock, great for sitting down and thinking about nothing.
to be kind was better though mostly.
I do have to listen again though, since i didn't get to hear all of it in one sitting yet (ik blasphemy or whatever but yeah)
I have never listened to Asap before, but I do like this album. I've heard the production is bad but I was honestly expecting worse. It's not my favorite thing ever, but I think the fact that I'm not a huge fan of asap helped me here. I didn't have the sky high expectations others had, since this album was an 8 year gap since his previous, and has been multiple years in the making.
Honestly if this album isn't be best thing ever I need to listen to his other stuff ... read more
I thought I rated this at some point. Well It went from a ~75 -> 65 anyway
edit: 65->61
I'm a fan of noise music but I don't really vibe with this fully. I think it's good for releasing steam but it doesn't really feel like an album if that makes sense. It's more like a really long uncut jam session where everyone is just in sync enough to hear a rhythm but it doesn't always progress how you expect.
I will say I did jump into this album not long after listening to their newest albym, "You're Weird Now," and I could not have had a worse ... read more
Finally listened to this album. It's been on my list for a bit but I never sat down and listened for some reason.
Honestly this album's fire! I don't think I have much to say that hasn't been said but if you like kendrick, clipse, or even old drake, then you should definitely listen to this. The production itself is definitely on par; I'm genuinely shocked this received no critical attention at all despite its high production value. Lowkey could imagine Michel and ... read more
If I had one word to describe this album, it would be desolate.
This album is a pure blend between the best of Noise music and Ambient music with its driving intensity and drifting melodies. It feels like walking through the desert, reminiscent of the cover art.* I really like this album as an experience, and I will be adding it to my noise playlist!
In a sense, it's kind of the anti Pulse Demon (the other Harsh Noise album I reviewed recently). Merzbow's music is more focused on ... read more
