The Lemon Twigs - Everything Harmony
72

I kept this band on my radar when I first discovered Corner of My Eye the beginning of 2023. The boys are so young yet they pull off the vintage style so well. I only consider myself a casual fan of The Beatles but I grew up listening to a radio station that played 60's - 90's pop/rock so there was some nostalgia there for me when I listened to this album. My main criticism is that while the majority of the songs had a solid core melody to them, the songs either don't go anywhere interesting or ... read more

Sleep Token - Take Me Back to Eden
85

I was hyped for this album after falling in love with the singles especially The Summoning and Granite. Then I tried listening to their past catalogue and did not find anything I liked. It also didn't help how common it was for bands to release all the "good" tracks first and the rest of the album ends up being subpar so my expectations were subdued to say the least. After spending a solid few hours listening to all the new tracks, I couldn't help but feel slightly let down. The wow ... read more

Oliver Francis - A Million Miles an Hour
75

One of my favourite Oli releases as it's very melody driven. It's also my 2nd vinyl purchase ever! I'm not the biggest fan of his old Soundcloud stuff so the departure of that style really favours me. I like the variety of samples and beats used. The filter he uses to lower his voice makes everything sound twice as good.

Golden Halo - 6.5 - doesn't have a strong lasting impression but still listen to it every time it comes up on the playlist
Gene Simmons - 8.5 - "Bitch I look like Majin ... read more

Oliver Francis - Memory Loss
72

Memory Loss - 7.5 - cohesive fusion of rap and rock, like the bridge a lot, chorus is slightly underwhelming
Secrets - 7 - solid rock track with Linkin Park vibes, like the verses more than the chorus since it just got old for me quickly
Aneurysm - 7 - lots of nothing, nowhere. vibes especially the intro, slower track, beautifully sung but again the chorus got old quickly

Dance Gavin Dance - Jackpot Juicer
77

I usually don't like ranking an album that just came out but I've listened to it more than 10 times so I don't think my opinion is rushed. On the first listen, nothing really stood out except for Holy Ghost Spirit, For The Jeers and One Man's Cringe. However, upon listening more critically, I am confident in saying this album is better than Artificial Selection (rated 61 by me for context) which came out in 2018. It's also vastly better than Afterburner (rated 55 by me). This is the first DGD ... read more

Spiritbox - Eternal Blue
73

Impressive debut album. I particularly liked the soft and calming elements to their music.

Sun Killer - 6 - doesn't go anywhere interesting, is bland but listenable until the sudden shift at 2:24 where she starts whispering repetitively, the impact of the breakdown at the end was well done which gives me a reason to listen to this song despite my criticisms
Hurt You - 7 - reminds me of a more traditional metalcore sound that I'm used to, easy to listen to, chorus was alright but nothing ... read more

Northward - Northward

It was only recently I dove into Nightwish's discography and I was so floored by Floor's vocals, I had to check out her side projects. This album was a pleasant surprise because we get to hear Floor singing a completely style of music to Nightwish. Even though I wasn't too impressed by most of the songs, I felt this was a good debut. I'm definitely looking forward to their second album.

While Love Died - 6, hook of the song isn't very memorable, sounds fun and has a lot of energy though, I'm ... read more

Dance Gavin Dance - Mothership
90

This is my favourite DGD album and it's not even close. Every track is distinct from each other, there is a good contrast between up-tempo and slow tempo songs and the guitar work and melodies are all above average to excellent. Tilian's vocals sound so perfect here and I mean it. I could not say the same about his music with Tides of Men, on Acceptance Speech or even on later DGD albums. Jon sounds fantastic as well and it's great to hear what he actually screams now compared with old records ... read more

nothing,nowhere. - trauma factory
70

I was a fan of Joe and was hyped for "trauma factory" after seeing the singles/music videos. This album feels a bit disappointing compared to his previous releases because he lost a lot of originality. I am not a stickler for artists having to diversify their sound after every album so I tried to enjoy the record while not comparing it with his previous work or other artists. I found myself to grow appreciation for it even though it's not near my top choices to relisten to except for ... read more

Citizen - Life In Your Glass World
62

I've tried to get into Youth previously but only found it to be alright. After listening to the first two singles to LIYGW, I knew this album wouldn't be my cup of tea either. Then I was really hyped up for the rest of the album after listening to "Death Dance Approximately", the opening track. Unfortunately, my hunch was correct and while I don't think this album is bad by any means, it just feels like there is no replay value personally. The dance beats were unexpected and some ... read more

ZAYN - Nobody Is Listening
30

I spent a little over an hour listening to this atrocity last night and not a single track stood out even remotely. If I were to listen to it again, it would only serve as background music. Zayn will always be my favourite One Direction member in terms of looks, but it's clear that only Harry and Niall are putting actual heart and passion in their work.

Kylie Minogue - DISCO
65

I had mixed feelings on Disco. I love pop music with retro influences, but this album was kind of hard to listen all in one sitting. It did make me want to get up and dance but after the first half, the unrelenting amount of disco vibes was too overwhelming for me to handle. Maybe it was a mistake for trying the deluxe version first, but I thought the album was too long and at least a few tracks could have been cut without any detriment. Aside for the nitpick on the length, the album should be ... read more

Avril Lavigne - Let Go
78

Let Go is my 2nd overall CD purchase and a staple of my childhood. I bought the record shortly after being enamored by Avril's strong sense of individuality in the "Complicated" music video. Besides having that nostalgic factor, I still enjoy most of the tracks musically and don't mind revisiting them.

Losing Grip - 7.5 - I didn't like this choice as a single but it showed a more depressing side to her music
Complicated - 10 - the one that started it all
Sk8er Boi - 8 - overplayed to ... read more

The Story So Far - Proper Dose
80

As someone who generally felt most pop punk bands sounded all the same, this album made me reevaluate my stance on the The Story So Far. I have previously tried very hard to get into their music but couldn't. There were only 3 songs that ever stood out to me. Those would be "Clairvoyant", "Nerve" and "Navy Blue". I never minded Parker Cannon's more aggressive vocal delivery, but it felt like the majority of their music all had the same tempo, same guitar work, same ... read more

blink-182 - blink-182
66

I bought this album on a whim when I was 13 at a Costco only because I thought the cover looked cool. I had heard of Blink before but didn't listen to their music as they didn't get a lot of coverage, at least to my knowledge, on the music channels and the radio stations here in Canada. I checked out their other music when I got older and I can safely say that I am not a fan of this band or pop punk in general.

Feeling This - 7 - the hook is good but it got old quickly
Obvious - 6
I Miss You - ... read more

AJR - The Click
32

I gave this a shot out of curiosity since there was so much hatred from critics. The album art is the best thing about this whole project. I did not enjoy most of the tracks and even with the ones I tolerated, I would not go back and revisit them as there is much more pleasant and rewarding music out there.

Overture - 1.5 - a medley of remixes from the songs on this record which is an interesting concept but the album sucks so bad it can't possibly warrant a higher rating

The Good Part - 2.5 ... read more

Dance Gavin Dance - Afterburner
55

Afterburner was way more formulaic than any other of their previous records, but it meant that a lot of the tracks had around the same scores. Even though I enjoyed it on the first few listens, I can't say I go revisit it occasionally so my final ranking has taken that into account. I also took off points for the lack of experimentation besides "Into the Sunset" and "Calentamiento Global". Too many tracks sound generic (in comparison with their previous stuff) as stated ... read more

Dance Gavin Dance - Artificial Selection
61

ArSe (lol) was disappointing for me since I found their previous record, Mothership, was close to being a perfect album. This was the first album since Instant Gratification where I thought Jon outperformed Tilian vocally. For the majority of the record, Tilian's vocals sounded like there was too much editing going on. They sounded raspy and airy which is great when it's for some parts of the track but it gets annoying when it's the same effect for the entire song. I've seen DGD live a few ... read more

Kid Astray - Home Before the Dark
62

I got into Kid Astray when I heard the song "The Best Of Us" that was released on their first EP. This album is brimmed with infectious melodies start to finish, it's hard not to find at least a few songs enjoyable. They had two synth/keyboard players who were also the main vocalists (Elizabeth left the band after the release of this album) and their third vocalist is the drummer. I thought the main duo harmonized pretty well with each other and it's a shame she left because I found ... read more

Lastlings - First Contact
63

I was searching for artists similar to Rüfüs Du Sol to give this kind of music a try since I had a tough time getting into Rüfüs's music. I fell in love with "Out of Touch" instantly and had high expectations for Lastlings' debut album.

"Take My Hand" and "No Time" were easily the other stand out tracks. I tried to like "Deja Vu" and "False Reactions" but the hooks just weren't satisfying enough for me to rank them higher ... read more
