Joanna Newsom - Ys

wow this album is dogshit. her voice is shrill and grating like a fairy on helium and it never lets up. the songs drag on forever with endless harp noodling that goes absolutely nowhere. the lyrics try so hard to be poetic they end up sounding like nonsense. i don’t get how anyone enjoys this. easily one of the worst listening experiences i've had.

Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do

i think this album is overrated too :( the rawness and percussion-heavy production are interesting but it starts to feel one-note after a while. fiona’s lyrics are sharp but the songs blend together for me

Joni Mitchell - The Hissing of Summer Lawns

this feels like a big step up from blue for me. the songwriting is sharper, the arrangements are way more interesting, and joni sounds more confident in experimenting

such a rich album, the production is so clean and layered. it feels futuristic but still emotional with this really unique sound that only utada could pull off. it’s not as raw as some of her later work but it’s insanely cohesive and ahead of its time. almost every track hits
