An 8-minute neo-psychedelic opener that will remain etched in pop music history for a long time. Yet, the album never feels long, quite the opposite. Perhaps the popularity of some tracks helps maintain that flow.
The whole project feels fresh, unique, and almost timeless. Even discovering Currents in full years after its 2015 release is a true pleasure. The vocal processing and production are subtle and refined, with a touch of glitch I find especially compelling.
As for the lyrics, ... read more
We always expect some kind of innovation from Lady Gaga—wrongly so, as she tends to make an impact more through her image and celebrity than through her music. With MAYHEM, she returns to her dark-pop roots, which are flawlessly executed but lack true originality.
The singles were very promising, delivering polished pop with a hint of innovation, but the rest of the album feels fairly generic, despite interesting lyrics and themes. It’s not what I was hoping for, but I’m not ... read more
Even after 40 years, this album remains so unique that it still feels like it comes from the future. I had the chance to discover it during a flight, and I felt as if I were transcending space and time—I couldn’t have chosen a better moment for this experience. It carries you in a kind of pleasant, slow languor, yet one that remains elusive. Wish You Were Here is a profoundly cinematic, theatrical, and above all, magnificent work.
From the very first 13-minute introduction, you ... read more
Both captivating and repetitive, Dear Insanity… explores mental health and psychological struggles through a diverse range of musical genres. This very diversity highlights DPR IAN’s versatility, though some tracks lack finesse. The album takes off strong and lands smoothly, a notable strength for a ~25-minute project. However, the middle section feels somewhat redundant due to its R&B foundation blended with an overly present and somewhat uninspired post-2020 disco influence. ... read more
Nu-metal, alternative rock, and contemporary R&B—an impressive eclectic mix for a dance album. It takes great musicality to blend so many genres while maintaining such a strong project. Rina brought a refreshing breeze to pop music with her debut album in 2020. Bold and personal, the genre transitions flow naturally, even if they remain somewhat “sectioned” into different parts of the album, which may lead listeners to favor certain sections over others.
With its floating, almost aquatic thematic depth, Choke Enough is an electro-ambient art-pop album that is both original and highly conceptual. It’s hard not to feel a slight comedown due to its monotony, which strongly contrasts with the mainstream productions dominating the scene today. However, this never truly becomes an issue for an album under 40 minutes. If this effect is intentional, then it’s brilliantly executed!
Art-pop meets trance, wrapped in the sensuality unique to FKA twigs. Releasing the album of the year on January 24th should almost be illegal. On a more serious note, Eusexua is a cohesive project, brimming with personality and surprises. It flows seamlessly, with no moments of drag ever felt.
The singles Eusexua and Drums of Death, already exceptional, become even better when accompanied by the rest of the album.
It is unimaginable that such a project was entirely conceived, written, and produced by a single person. This album showcases the incredible artistic powerhouse that Grimes can be. As the sole decision-maker, she manages to blend all the wild influences of pop while maintaining a unique coherence and charm.
The Californian vibe infused by her guitar stands in stark contrast to the darker, more introspective tone of Visions, her most famous album.
This very choice gives Art Angels a stronger ... read more
As if boredom suddenly became pleasant, almost like an ambient album where you can both daydream and dance. A project truly unique in its kind, so original it stands apart. The vocal layering, the highly repetitive basslines, and the oscillation of synthetic elements add depth and rhythm to the structure of the tracks. Genesis and Oblivion prove to be perfectly complementary and, above all, flawless.
However, the album’s monotony, which partly defines its charm, can occasionally work ... read more
The perfect album for a gloomy winter, with deep writing and introspection.
I expected an album even more electronic than the previous three, which had been increasingly moving in that direction, but Björk chose a much softer and more sincere turn compared to Homogenic.
As a French listener and a particular fan of electronic/glitch music, especially Björk’s, this album resonates with me less on a musical level. I had imagined her sound would continue to evolve into increasingly ... read more
Immi masters electronic music like no one else. She has always stood out as a visionary artist whose influence is still felt today. The number of her songs being sampled even now is a testament to the album’s sonic richness, which also makes it easier to appreciate in 2024. While the instrumentation and her voice are remarkable, the overall experience can feel somewhat disorienting at first (thanks to trends and samples that accompany us). Nevertheless, her talent and the foresight she ... read more
Brat truly showcases Charli XCX in all her glory. While seasoned listeners will quickly recognize this sound, for the broader audience, the album arrives at a perfect moment in the evolution of pop music. Seamlessly blending pop, electro, techno, and acid, her musical journey and personal influences prevent her from falling into the clichés of a pop artist dabbling in electro, all while delivering a work that remains accessible to everyone. In terms of cultural impact, it is undoubtedly ... read more
An ambitious project, carried by the duo Finneas and Billie, who seem far from ready to stop. This third album might seem risky, given that the two previous ones offered such different atmospheres. While at times it feels like they’re trying to capture the best elements of the first albums, sometimes without truly managing to break free from them, HMHAS remains a very good album, offering a pleasant and easily accessible listen (more so than the second album). Billie appears increasingly ... read more
M.I.A’s Kala is an album that hasn’t aged a day in nearly 20 years. I always knew her early projects were special from the moment they were released, and this one stands out as a groundbreaking work, blending electro, hip-hop, and global influences with bold and innovative production. I can still imagine a new artist emerging from the techno scene with a similar proposition today.
Every track reflects meticulous attention to detail and exceptional creativity, combined with a ... read more
“Her Colombian roots blossom on this Spanish-language album. Kali Uchis unfolds a world filled with warmth and sensuality. I enjoyed listening to it, though a stronger presence of organic Colombian and Hispanic elements would have enhanced the immersion she aimed to create in this album. The reggaeton, finely balanced, blends seamlessly, adding touches of originality and liveliness to the whole. Kali Uchis’ voice, always captivating, finds a unique depth in tracks with lower tones ... read more
Another Björk discovery, and I love it even more. I can’t believe this was released only two years after Post—which was already a completely different project. I gave Post a 10, but this is even better, above perfection. Her voice, songwriting, and production are outstanding: so theatrical yet rough. I can’t believe this is 30 years old, and I’ve never heard anything like it—it feels brand new. Björk is definitely one of the greatest artists of all time, ... read more
Looks like he wants to go hard and he sure did, sometimes so much i didnt know where we were going, overall great instrumental, a very personal writing
Banger feminine collabs
Not my fav from him but it stills adds well in his very great discography
A great addition from the duo to the already well-packed 2024 year in music.
The harsh production with heavy electronic material along with the sweet voice of Mica is a pure joy.
An Angel singing from hell, « That’s my Floor »made me stop everything to re-listen, already in my all Time favorite instrumental.
Overall a great concept that keeps being cohesive while having such different instrumental all along.
Felt more organic than her second album,
Sometimes the lyrics are harsher and controversial, but she delivered a classic here
She puts a lot of soul and jazz for a 2003 pop album,
Just in line with the legendary Amy that we all know nowadays,
Could’ve cut one or two songs to get a more cohesive disc at the end,
I love how it’s just fun vibes, great music and no fucks given
