I love this song so much. It builds on itself in such an effective way, without necessarily changing massively but not needing to. With each repetition you’re yes and-ing the previous bar, and building anticipation for the eventual release. By the time you reach the middle of song you’ve been hooked. Here we are for my modern classics review series taking a closer look at a personal favorite of mines. A real unjustifiable award snub, and a crushing example of how real true, raw music is ignored by the mainstream. I am of course talking about the raw, emotional story about Black Death, wealth inequality, racial unity, and community solace, all backed by a dense g funk inspired beat. I of course talk about Gmcfosho’s 2013 banger “Miss My Ni”.
