even if its sonically a little uneven in some corners, this is one of Kendrick‘s most emotionally devastating records and there is nothing else like it on this planet.
many songs here suffer from repetition and predictability, which is why it doesnt reach nearly the same heights as My Agenda. the lack of features exacerbates this problem.
despite that, so many of the beats hit hard and so many of the hooks stick in my brain that i will want to return to this record again and again.
one of the most unsettling pieces of music i think ive ever heard.
was curiously listening to the first few tracks thinking "i guess i can see where people are coming from with this but it feels like a stretch". then Liar Liar played and i was actually somewhat entranced by it. im glad people can take this album seriously.
doesnt reach the same demented heights as TEAATB for me but its still a really exciting and consistent horror album.
those moments in Run for Your Life where a car drives by blasting the beat that Daveed Diggs was secretly rapping along too all along. one of the most ingenious production tricks i think ive ever heard.
the wacky, theatrical, aggressively queer energy from their earlier work has been washed away. this just sounds sterile in comparison.
a few production highlights but nothing that i‘ll bother returning for anytime soon.
the gold standard for modern Hardcore Punk. no other album on earth infuses me with this much visceral energy.
when my mother died of cancer, listening to this album was one of the most healing experiences i went through.
it didnt feel depressing in that moment. it was comforting to hear someone talk about their own loss in such an earnest, healthy, and loving way. it gave me strength to face the horror, process it, and then start my life up again.
the production is interesting at times, but the spoken word treats the listener like a stupid child that needs to be given a lecture on how awful the world is. its a rancid vibe, even if the political content of the lecture is essentially correct.
the sound of every star in the cosmos singing and dancing with you, showing you corners of your subconscious you never even knew existed.
suddenly, after forty wild minutes of psychedelic maximalism, their voices come to a weeping halt, and you fear that the party is over. but it isnt, because even in grief there is beauty, and even in mourning there is reason to dance.
the universe starts singing again, and its here to tell you even in your darkest moments, even when you and your loved ones ... read more
this album opens with one of the hardest beat drops in the history of music.
the rest is pretty neat too. Robert Pattinson playing guitar on Birds gets an automatic +1.
my favorite Death Grips record. contains my favorite opener and my favorite closer to any of their projects. even the more lowkey tracks are sticky as hell. the closest that DG have ever come to perfection.
feels like an expanded version of femtanyl's already very enjoyable sound. more variety, creativity, and depth all around.
i really dig it!
