super odd, funky, experimental rock album thats and an absolute blast to listen to.
the unique vocal style might put some people off but to me they fit the vibe perfectly.
clipping. once again adopt a new sound and theme, and they once again nail it.
Flume has such wicked way of making completely functional edm bangers sound so subtly messed up, that it makes you feel like youre accidentally tuning into an off-world broadcast not meant for your simple human clubbing ears. also the Jpeg track is one of the hardest things ive ever heard.
you put it on for the meme, but then you actually find yourself getting cozy under your blanket and letting the jolly spirit fill you as you sing along to these sweet covers
the first proper song, Motion Blur, shows you exactly what this album is about. there is no drop, almost no song structure at all, just an extremely skeletal beat that plays metronome for an utterly alien synth that seems to follow a mathematical formula more closely than the beat itself as the track slowly unwraps its textural layers.
not every song on this album is quite that out there, but most of the tracks carry with them this otherworldly aura, like they were beamed into my brain by an ... read more
what a terrible listening experience, to be having so much fun, only for So I to crush your soul and make you bawl your eyes out.
the daughter verse has lost some points with me, as there now seems to be some serious doubt on Kendrick‘s claim, but the rest of the song is still amazing and will go down in history as one of the scariest hiphop tracks of all time.
this song was perhaps less impactful than *those two tracks*, but it has aged so incredibly well, especially in how it predicted the result of the beef, that it has become my favorite song from the conflict.
i can see why these got cut, most of them are slightly lower quality than the album… but theyre still fucking quality. the new tracks by themselves are like a low 8/10
im really glad to hear the New Black History outro gets its own full song because that beat is absolutely earth-shattering, but even there, i might actually prefer the album version, where its just a short freakout-intermission in between songs and doesnt become too exhausting for your eardrums.
38 songs, 1 minute each, and not a single skip. obviously at those track lengths you really cant develop the ideas, which takes away a lot of the satisfaction of these crazy beats, but the way the tracks all nicely flow into each other still gives the mixtape a surprisingly cohesive flow
drenching melodramatic melodies in excessive amounts of reverb and then pumping them with fat kick drums is an easy effect to achieve, and it sorta works for the first couple of tracks, but after that it starts to get really repetitive. it sounds like an edm remix of a HEALTH record, but with all the grit removed.
some of the most whacked-out, manic, deafening rock music youll hear this year
A gorgeous album that will give you a new perspective on life with its poignant, poetic, political lyrics, while dazzling your ears with its creative, bold production.
on my first listen, i was actually glad when it was over, because every other song would make me break down in tears, and by the end my heart simply couldnt take more if it. i knew immediately that it would be my aoty.
after listening to it a bunch more time, it is now my favorite album of all time and so far the only album that truly feels like a 100/100 to me.
Tyler's journey on this album is so incredibly genuine and touching, and he comes out of it as a stronger, more true to himself ... read more
the constant self-loathing can be exhausting, but it still feels very sincere to me, and the minimalist songwriting is a good fit for the intimate, pained singing and guitar playing
thanks to Professor Skye and Geordie Greep for putting me onto this thing. thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
