Tender yet intense, many tracks on this album pack an emotional punch paired with luscious, expertly layered instrumentals.
Many artists have made music about how being rich and famous isn't All That Great, Actually. But Kanye is already such a larger-than-life figure, such a perfect embodiment of everything we love and hate about stardom and celebrity culture, that hearing this narrative come out his mouth just hits that much harder. In his magnum opus, he expertly juggles the soaring highs of his luxurious life with the depressing, depraved lows that his own ego takes him to.

It can feel unfocused and a bit all over the place at times, but I think Brockhampton's best songs land on this album and I just love love love the sound of it.
A Kanye album stripped down to its absolute bare necessities. It's honest, vulnerable, and a highly engaging listen.
So horribly bloated that I deleted half the tracks again. After that though, what's left is a tight Kanye record with some surprisingly good material.
A beautiful, tragic story of heartbreak underscored by stunning production. The pitched up vocals work really well for me and they further add to the desperate, kind of pathetic character portrayed by Tyler. Make sure that you look up and add the real 4th track 'BOYFRIEND', which was originally a physical edition exclusive.
Peggy adds more melodic elements to his singularly abrasive sound, to spectacular results. this practically perfect track list is even more unpredictable than Veteran, retains that record's raw aggression, and is filled to the brim with moments of genuine sonic beauty.
As disturbing as it can be serene. A transcendental experience if you are in the right headspace for it.
It's kind of amazing to me that this is an EP. In just 21 minutes, so many musical ideas are explored, so many nasty grooves created from seemingly impossible sources that can, at any moment, break out into hauntingly beautiful ambient passages.
Looking back on it now i can admit that objectively this album is probably not the flawless masterpiece that I believed it to be when it came out (to be fair i was 14 and my music taste was pretty shit). But Afterworld still connected with me in a way no other piece of music had ever before, and even now I think it's a stunning listen front to back with a very versatile and expansive sound.
An ambitious, visceral, exhausting experience. This album will test your patience and sanity, but if you stick with it you will be rewarded greatly.
