Isbell is amazing. The Nashville Sound blew my mind and is to this day my favorite americana/country album, but this album is so good. Packed to the brim with guitar ballads, this thing is also overflowing with incredible storytelling. It's insane how distinct Isbell is from anyone else considering this entire record is just him and his guitar.
I am addicted.

So fun, so simple, absolute head bopper.
This is the best "dumb trap party music" I have ever heard. It's so much fun to listen to and the hooks just get stuck in your head. You catch yourself saying stuff like "hittin' that boy with the fah, notice me" while you're doing dishes.
While it's certainly not the most texturally interesting or technically impressive, it is certainly captivating and does its job very well.

The walk today was pretty great, and so was this album.
I’ll keep it relatively short since I feel like everything that’s needed to be said has already been said by other people but I liked this quite a bit. There were some points where I felt like the guitar tones were a little bit questionable but that is excusable and completely subjective.
I am excited to listen to more Radiohead.

Heartbreakingly beautiful record. You’ll be hard pressed to find a record that captures “happy sad” in a more fantastic way than this one. Glittery, epic, and fun.
I’ve listened to this for a year or two already but I just wanted to put this on my account lol.
This entire record sounds like your boys riffing and singing around a campfire to me. Such amazing storytelling, while still being pretty blunt and on the nose. Really love the songwriting. But Bob’s voice can be a little much for me at times. Don’t get me wrong I usually really like it but there are so sections where it just sounds like he is WAILING without much tune or effort.

Edit: 94 -> 100, while there are two songs that I don’t really care for, as a cohesive project, this thing is immaculate. I haven’t been this enamored with an LP in a LONG time.
WOW. Genuinely one of the best records I have heard since I started reviewing. So much personality and attention to detail. An awesome mix of distortion, peppy drum beats, and some cutting edge production and vocal cadence ideas. This is gonna be my hyperfixation for a bit.

This sounds like a mix of MGMT, The Ramones, and Cage the Elephant in the best ways. Bright warm indie rock and pop songs make for a very enjoyable package.
They do a good job mixing it up and keeping it fresh. They retread similar ground throughout the record but it doesn’t get boring. However, some of the vocal performances are pretty grading, especially in the falsetto ranges.
Not too much to be mad at, but also not a “I’ve never heard anything like this before” ... read more
This album lacks staying power. Aside from “the reason” there were maybe 2 other songs that jumped out at me. The rest was pretty uninspired and frankly I had a pretty rough time getting through it.
Also HOLY COW this thing is bloated, going 3 for 17 is ROUGH.
Favorites: out of control, just one, the reason
Least favorites: pretty much everything else; lots of filler
Pretty good collection of tracks. Tate is definitely at her best when she taps into the 2010s pop sound. Punchy drums and staccato melodies suit her very well, and it makes for some very fun tracks. While there are certainly a few cuts that feel like she is punching under what she is capable of, she still comes through with some pretty electric performances.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bored with the actual subject matter of the record. The whole "rah rah we bang and have ... read more
What a classic, masterful. Warm melodies perfect for driving or sitting around a campfire.
Favorites: Ventura Highway, to each his own, don’t cross the river, moon song, til the sun comes up, Cornwall bank, California revisited

I like a lot of mk.gee's ideas on this one, but man does the mixing hold it back for me.
For starters, there is not another person who sounds like this on the music market. Mk.gee is one of a kind and it is plain as day on this record. Each of these tracks feels unique, it sounds like they are from another world.
The mixing is a hurdle that I can't overcome though. I think there are some pretty cool ideas and mk.gee absolutely has a lot of promise. This LP sounds like it was mixed ... read more
UPDATE: ITS BEEN LIKE A WEEK AND IVE LISTENED TO IT MORE AND I GET IT NOW.
This is one of the most well recognized midwest-emo records ever. The comfy feeling of listening to this thing on a walk in the evening is one you don't get very many other places, I love the guitar work and melody choice. Past that there wasn't very much for me here. A few of the songs seem very drawn out and over stay their welcome at points - the pacing is just generally pretty lackluster and random. There ... read more
A pretty solid bag of post grunge bangers. You can tell they are inspired by their contemporaries, but I think Candlebox, both the record and the band, stand on their own two feet with some pretty impressive moments. They were absolutely a product of their time though.

Frickin awesome blend of sounds for a pretty fantastic pop record.
Imogen Heap's "headlock" has been blowing up so I decided to give the full record a listen. I didn't realize how many viral moments this album had. Needless to say, you can hear the influence this record and many of Imogen Heap's other works have had on the pop space, with acts like the japanese house and charli xcx becoming increasingly popular over the last few years.

A diverse and volatile set of tracks, DEMO is pretty good. The highs are FANTASTIC, and the lows really suck.
Personally, I don't think it holds a torch to most of Brevin Kim's recent work. High School Football and Doghead are two of my favorite records, period, and this is definitely a step down from those two.
That's not to say it wasn't a good listen though. The intro track had me so hyped. The ideas explored on this record range from pretty basic emo rap to ... read more
This is such a great album. Just a man with a killer voice and his guitar.
Tyler Childers' vocal style and pen game are two of his most poignant and distinct characteristics when it comes to his songs. And man is it addicting. Each song delivers on the storytelling front, and the voice behind the words only stands to amplify the emotion.
A few of the songs felt a little boring. However, some of the ratings on these tracks are just flat out wrong. Universal sound, tattoos, and born again ... read more
I literally looked up "is Alex G sober" like halfway through this thing.
Man this was a hard one for me.
I love the melancholic chord progressions and the guitar tones. That's all I really get out of this record. The other stuff varies in quality so much but for the most part, I didn't like the subject matter/lyrics, mixing, sound selection aside from the guitars. This was one of my most volatile listens in terms of rating. On a scale of 1-10 I used every number except 4 ... read more
The record is a little all over the place. One thing I did discover is I have a pretty hard time with Guardin's voice and lyrics. There are some points where he strings together some pretty tough to listen to tracks with whiny and grading vocals and ai generated sounding lyrics. The production also tends to be pretty hit of miss. It gets more consistent throughout but man those first 3 songs were hard to sit through.
Thats not to say I didn't like the record though. It absolutely has ... read more
Pinegrove's Everything So Far put the band on the map for a lot of people, myself included. Need 2 is now an iconic track that just about everyone on the internet knows about, and the things that make that track great are things that you can find all over this record. I love the choice of chord progressions and the uniqueness of Hall's vocal delivery. The blend of sounds Pinegrove thrives creating make jams that are uniquely Pinegrove, and that's not something you find very ... read more
Edit: 75 -> 88 -> 100: I did not do this justice. Upon relistening this is a fantastically written project that sets Noeline Hoffman apart from her peers starkly. Peak.
Noeline Hofmann's voice is so addicting.
I liked this for the most part. Lots of very great songwriting, just a few points where I lost a little bit of steam particularly toward the end. I like what Zach Bryan brought to the table, but I actually think I like the solo version of the song more. Noeline just seems ... read more
