I can appreciate the more natural sounding vocals here instead of the autotune extremes on 22, A Million, but the songs as a whole are just really uninteresting for me. Lyricism has never felt blander and all around the production just feels so much more weak and basic than any of this albums priors.

Very glitchy and electronic style on here especially towards the beginning. Lots of autotune, much more than Bon Iver's previous albums and it honestly doesn't sound that great to me at all, especially on track three for example. Towards the end this isn't as big of an issue and some of the albums best songs are in its latter half where it has a bit more of a traditional folk sound to it. This is certainly a hot take but this album really didn't stick with me that much. Instrumentally its much more powerful than its prior and it definitely seems a lot more diverse, but honestly I think that sort of simplicity and cozy feeling is what I enjoyed out of the debut. This album just doesn't have that warm cozy feeling to me and I'm honestly just not huge on the overall sound style. Great album, I love the folk sound and the overall wintery cold feeling of the project. Pretty straightforward of an album but can really pack a punch if it hits you just right. I don't fully see the hype for this but its still pretty great.
