Relistened to this. It’s a fantastic album. This is fresh music. Metal desperately needed innovation and while I wouldn’t fully call this metal save for some songs, this progressive music is what is needed. Some may argue they just throw stuff at the wall and to respond: Yeah. So what? A lot of music is made that way and frankly I enjoyed what was done on this album. May not be for you and that’s cool. I get it.
Let’s talk about the tracks. Chokehold is a great intro ... read more
I am not considering this as a replacement to DSOTM. These are 2 clearly different things.
That said, the choices are pretty interesting. The more laid back instrumentals kinda complement the audiobook like experience in some songs. The thing is it’s very inconsistent with its ability to hold itself up. The main issue is Roger Waters himself. His voice has not aged well and it shows. A hot take possibly is that I actually prefer his dialogue sections over the singing because of this. I ... read more
This is the best jazz record I ever heard. I cannot imagine more perfect jazz instrumentation in a million years. This is just beautiful art that really shows the emotions of jazz. It is hard to pick a "best track" because they are all the same level of greatness. The music tells a story that you kinda just have to hear it to get it. It's kinda similar to Lift Your Skinny Fists in that sense. Divorce your wife or husband if he doesn't like this album.
This album actually just sounds horrible. Not a single song makes me want to relisten to this album. The main issue is the vocals. They sound so bad. It is so annoying sitting through these tracks while hearing the worst vocals known to man. The tracks feel 4 times the length. The instrumental side isn't that great either. Fits right at home with some mid rock band from the 70s.
I think that's all for my review. It's not like they did something crazy that I am not addressing.
I had very mixed feelings on this album pre-release. On one hand, Rift was fire and Wall, while not feeling as different as I would like, felt like a sign that the band would finally evolve. On another hand, Eastside was weird but not in a great way but mid. Cicada at first upset me for being the same good kid formula that every fan is familiar with. However, my perspective changed upon realizing: This is the best iteration of their sound.
Now onto the main album. Coffee immediately ... read more
I wanna get the following out of the way. The song purple rain is amazing. Love it. However, this is an album review and frankly only lets go crazy lived up to the hype that the song purple rain set. Most of the other songs are good or great but not really something I will come back to. Darling Nikki was so uncomfortable to listen to that I skipped it. I did not wanna hear prince say grind repeatedly. The backing track wasn’t really begging me to stay so I prolly didn’t miss much. ... read more
Prog metal band wheel delivered an album that I think is pretty great. This album is pretty small in track size with a weird split in times for these songs. 4 of em are 4 minutes or less and in the other 3, they decided to make 10+ minute songs. While the 4 minute tracks are pretty killer, I think there is such a skill difference between their longer songs and their short songs and its pretty jarring. The longer tracks are actually just some of the best prog metal I heard. Hyperion is ... read more
beauty has a pretty solid beat and suddenly is catchy.
Thats all my compliments.
I hate this album and everything it stands for. The amount of rage I got when mgk played 4 kicks and said “thats a drum solo” cannot be expressed. That is some real ragebait. Also in the first song, it sounds like mgks voice was getting shifted into being on time rather than normally on time which is jarring. A lot of these songs are either nothing burgers or the worst most on the nose lyrics ever. ... read more
Honestly this is a fine listen but it isn’t anything crazy. I think alfa years was and always will be their best combination of songs. In terms of general live albums, maybe I would put this higher but seeing that better options to listen to exist, I’m not as pulled in to this as I’d like. Looking Up, Asayake, and Galactic Funk are the highlights. Still would recommend to casiopea listeners.
When the goofiest lyrics aren’t being said, the beats are fire and the lyricism is clever. Big fan of it and will be bumping.
This is my first Kendrick album and I love it. I’m a big fan of the jazz rap he used in this. The lyricism is very good and I can really see what he’s trying to say. Mortal man is such an amazing closer. I was skeptical seeing it was 12 minutes but man it is a hitter.
I can really see why this is fantano’s favorite album. It is objectively a banger if not for the jazz then for the lyrics. While I believe at some points the jazz is not amazing, the album holds well ... read more
This album has me as blown away as in rainbows did. A fresh style of rock that is not really done by many bands. All the songs are amazing. Ranking-wise while I have it as a 9, this will likely change similar to how coheeds the afterman went from 9/10 to my favorite album. My only issue is sometimes I think the album uses walls of sound a little too willy nilly which kind of detracts me from the album lightly. Fantastic album though. I mean getting me interested in the softer songs means they ... read more
There is two sides to this album: the good and the bad.
The good is the instrumentation. It goes so hard especially in tipping point and the last note. I think with how overfilled thrash is, it still is something that can stand out.
The bad though….dave mustaine. He suffers from the disease we call getting old. His voice has not aged well and while it is less noticeable in some songs, it is really obvious in others. The ride the lightning cover was atrocious even looking past the half ... read more
This is some sick funk metal. New skin, idiot box, deep inside, redefine, a certain shade of green, and nebula are the big bangers. I do think this album falls in the middle with magic medicine especially being a stinker. Seque 1 is a really weird but also fun closer kinda just messing around with samples and stuff for 10 minutes. This is moonchild by king crimson if it was peak.
Yeah this album isn’t doing groundbreaking work but it’s a great album nonetheless. Would recommend
There is quite a lot of bangers on this album. Both his lyrics the beats are great. I do feel like this album is less background focused which, while good for making the lyrics stand out, also just harms some of em. Don’t kill my vibe especially suffers on this album as the chorus is just very subpar along with a beat that could be from some 10 listener SoundCloud account. Sing about me I’m dying of thirst though is an amazing aspect of the album. When I saw another 10+ minute track ... read more
Gabriella is an overall solid song. No complaints. Gameboy has cool drums at the expense of pretty eh lyrics with that gamer stank on it. But this isn’t dragonforce and they dont got the whimsy or melody of dragonforce or a similar level to be dropping these bars making them just sound corny in a lame way. The mean girls song heavily reminds me of granite by sleep token but with less trap and some random synth sample that just doesn’t get the kick it desires. MIA has cool drums with ... read more
Goofy music with a flow. Nothing more. Nothing less. I think sword was the better one though
